NLNG, BECC Partner on Bonny Kingdom’s Environmental Sustainability
The Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas Limited (NLNG) and Bonny Environment Consultants Committee (BECC) have reached a consensus to work together for the sustainability of the environment in the gas firm’s operational area, Bonny Local Government Area of Rivers State.
This consensus was reached on Thursday, June 11, 2026 at the end of a Two-Day Transformative Leadership Workshop for Bonny Kingdom Community organized by the NLNG for members of BECC in Lagos.



The Workshop with the theme: “From Vision to Impact: Transformational Leadership and Community Sustainability”, had participants from BECC and NLNG, as well as the Chief-in-Charge of Environment and Vice Chairman of Bonny Chiefs Council, Se-Alabo Haniel Jack-Wilson Pepple.
In her welcome remarks, NLNG’s General Manager, External Relations and Sustainable Development, Dr Sophia Horsfall, expressed the commitment of her company to deepening interactions with the leadership and institutions of Bonny Kingdom.
Represented by the Manager, Community Relations and Sustainable Development, Dr Yemi Adeyemi, she explained that the workshop is aimed at enhancing the capacity of Bonny Kingdom institutions, and empowering them to pursue their community objectives from a place of knowledge and understanding.
On his part, the Chief-in-Charge of Environment, Se-Alabo Haniel Jack-Wilson Pepple commended NLNG for contriving the concept of the workshop, noting that the participants have come out with enhanced appreciation of issues relating to environmental sustainability.


BECC through its Assistant Secretary of BECC, Smart Halliday thanked the management of NLNG and the resource persons from DexNova for putting together the workshop, saying it has boosted the knowledge and capacity of BECC members, expressing the optimism of an accentuated relationship between BECC and the company.
The resource persons, Emmanuel Chidiebere,, and Rantiola Babatimehin made presentations covering core subject matters such as Environmental Management and Sustainability, Economic Opportunities in Environmental Management, Community Sustainability through Intentional Environmental Management, among others.




The participants were also taken on a guided tour of a waste recycling plant operated by State-Wide Environmental and Education Programme (SWEEP) Foundation, where the Executive Director, Philips Obuesi briefed the them on how materials recycling works and also responded to questions by the participants.
On the whole, the two-day workshop served as a learning curve, strategic engagement and an opportunity for both BECC and NLNG to reimagine their relationship along the lines of collaborations, strategic thinking and environmental sustainability.












From comments made by its members, it was apparent that BECC would need to reinvent the wheel In terms of how it has been managing Bonny Kingdom environment, as well as rethink its approach to discharging its mandate having been subjected to strategic exposition on the economic benefits inherent in the environment.
