There was pandemonium early this morning in Akiama Community in Bonny Local Government Area of Rivers State where a man in his late twenties alleged used a machete to slaughter his elder brother.

Checks by Kristina Reports reveal that the deceased, Mieadonye Allaputa, and his younger sibling, Ibinabo, had some misunderstanding over a yet-to-be-disclosed issue some days earlier and the former had to stay away from the community for days to avert further escalation of the matter.

An eyewitness, who preferred anonymity, said the late Mieadonye had to come home to give some money to his wife who had just put to bed less than a month ago for upkeep and slept over till this morning.

Unknown to him, his younger brother, Ibinabo was stalking him, and when he went to the waterside to ease himself early this morning, the latter attacked him with a machete on the neck and ran away.

The late Mieadonye left behind a wife and four other little children with the less than a month old baby making them five in number.

Upon hearing his cry for help, his neighbours mobilized and rushed him to the nearby St. Charles Clinic, close to the Forward Operating Base of the Nigerian Navy at Akiama but were turned back by the management which said the cut was too deep for them to handle and referred them to the General Hospital, Bonny.

When they eventually got to the General Hospital located along Hospital Road, Bonny, he was certified dead on arrival by the doctor on duty, having lost so much blood along the way.

Youths of the community had mobilized and chased the assailant who ran into the forest but were yet to find him as at the time of this report.

The Nigeria Police was yet to make a statement on the matter as the Divisional Police Officer, Bonny, Shuaib Achigili was unavailable for comments on the matter when Kristina Reports tried reaching him.

A youth in the community confided in Kristina Reports that they were on the trail of Ibinabo, who was still at large, saying, “We know he must have run into one of the villages but we shall surely find him to come and answer to his crimes”.
