The suspected killer of his elder brother, Ibinabo Allaputa, who was arrested yesterday by the Police, has declared that the Police will release him and those taunting him will see him back soon to their shame and chagrin.

Ibinabo was caught five days after he escaped into a forest close to Oguede Community, adjacent to Akiama Community, after allegedly using a machete to slaughter his elder brother, Mieadonye Allaputa in Akiama Community in Bonny Local Government Area of Rivers State.

This has caused disquiet in Akiama and other adjoining communities in the area as people have continued to express apprehension that given his past criminal record, he would pose a greater danger to the area should he be released.

The Police has, however, dismissed such claims, saying there was no cause for alarm.

The Divisional Police Officer, Bonny, Shuaib Achigili told Kristina Reports that “we have him now and we are going to hand him over to the State Police Command for further investigation and subsequent prosecution.”

He assured residents of Akiama and other adjoining communities that security has been beefed up around the area to ensure everyone is safe, stating that “we want to ensure that Bonny LGA is safe during the festive season; people should be able to enjoy their stay in Bonny during this period and that is what we want to ensure happens.”

“My men are on high alert and monitoring every part of the LGA to ensure mischief makers are kept at bay. We also want everyone to support the security forces by providing information that will help us do our job. If you see anything that looks suspicious, inform us so that action will be taken to stem it in the bud”.

Ibinabo Allaputa

Ibinabo Allaputa was said to have allegedly trailed his elder brother to their waterside toilet in Akiama Community where he reportedly used a machete to cut him at the back of his head, leading to his death.

Kristina Reports learnt that he fled the crime scene into the forest in Oguede, an adjoining community and was there for five days before he was apprehended by the Police with the assistance of the youths of Akiama Community.

The Nigeria Police Force, Bonny Division has earlier suspended the burial of the late Mieadonye Allaputa pending the arrest of his suspected assailant and younger brother, Ibinabo Allaputa.

There was jubilation in Akiama and other neighbouring communities when the news of his arrest broke on Sunday morning.

But the excitement was shortlived when eyewitness accounts revealed that he was shouting that the Police would release him sooner than later. They said he further declared that his traducers would be ashamed when they see him again.

His defiance in the face of arrest added to his previous criminal record of cutting people’s hands with his machete instantly sparked fears around the community with community members urging the Police to ensure he was never set loose.

A lady resident of Akiama Community, who preferred anonymity, warned that “make them no release am oh. If not him go come kill more people. Him use him mouth dey talk am, everybody hear am say police go release and when him come him kill people”.

Kristina Reports checks reveal that the wife of the suspect had fled the community with her children to an unknown destination shortly after the incident for fear of reprisal attacks.

Information available to Kristina Reports has it that the bone of contention was a one room apartment in their family house which both men were dragging who was to occupy it, and a parcel of land belonging to their late father.

Kristina Reports also learnt that the mental condition of the suspect was also an issue, as many who know him pointed out that he (Ibinabo) was unstable and deranged due to abuse of hard drugs.

Reliable sources within the family revealed to Kristina Reports that both the deceased and the suspect were siblings from same paternal and maternal parentage.
