The new Commissioner of Police in Rivers State, Okon Effiong arrived smoking hot and declaring instant aggression against any attempt to compromise the forthcoming 2023 elections as well as criminal elements.

CP Effiong, who announced during his maiden press briefing on Wednesday, October 26, 2022 at the State Police Command Headquarters, Moscow Road, Port Harcourt, that “we will take the war to their hideout”, advised residents to conduct themselves properly before, during and after the elections.

He urged the youths to desist from thuggery during the elections, asserting that the Command will not spare any person or group of persons that will disturb the relatively peace enjoyed in the State under his watch.

We are quite aware that we are already in the season of elections and campaign have started. The new electoral law does not give room for thuggery and violence. Therefore, we will do everything possible to ensure that right from the time of campaigns violence and thuggery are eliminated. People should be able to come out freely and discharge their responsibility as it pertains to those who would govern them.

The Commissioner informed that the command will take proactive measures in tackling insecurity, enjoining criminals to turn a new leaf or leave the State.

He further stated that abuse of the fundamental human rights of citizens will not be tolerated under his watch, calling on citizens to report any form of abuse by any officer under the Command.

Okon Effiong, who assumes office as the 42^nd Commissioner of Police in Rivers State, urged all residents in the state to remain confident and trust in the ability of the Police to dutifully discharge its constitutional mandate of ensuring public peace and security.

He also pledged to be discreet and professional and run an open door policy, extending a hand of friendship to all stakeholders to join hands with the police to make Rivers State a safer and better place to live in.
