Tinubu’s Three Years: NGO Decries Worsening Welfare, Security
As Nigeria’s President, Bola Tinubu, marks three years in office, concerns are mounting among Nigerians over what they describe as a decline in welfare and security across the country.
Speaking to Kristina Reports on the anniversary, Executive Director of Pilex Centre for Civic Education and Initiative, also known as ‘The People’s Advocate’, Courage Nsirimovu expressed dissatisfaction with the administration’s performance.

He argued that key campaign promises have yet to translate into meaningful improvements in their daily lives.
On security, Courage lamented that kidnapping and terrorism remain persistent threats.
He noted that both children and adults continue to be abducted in various parts of the country, leaving many communities in fear.
“In response, some neighbourhoods have resorted to self-help measures, including erecting gates and organising local vigilante groups, due to what they perceive as inadequate government protection,” he added.
Commenting on welfare, the Executive Director of The People’s Advocate pointed to the rising cost of living as a major challenge.
Energy prices, he claimed, have surged significantly in recent years, placing additional strain on households and businesses.
According to him, the cost of food items has also continued to climb under his watch, making basic necessities increasingly unaffordable for ordinary citizens.
He stressed that, even among middle and upper-income earners, there is growing reliance on alternative power sources such as solar energy, as electricity supply remains inconsistent.
Courage also alleged that economic concerns were further heightened by increased government borrowing, with critics calling for greater transparency and accountability in the management of public funds.
He argued that despite the loans, there has been little visible improvement in infrastructure, as roads and public facilities in many areas remain in poor condition.
Courage also pointed out that education has also been affected, with several families reportedly struggling to afford quality schooling for their children amid rising costs.
Overall, the Advocacy Centre says that despite the administration’s promise of “Renewed Hope,” their economic realities and sense of safety have deteriorated over the past three years.
