Manchester City has acquired the signature of Jérémy Doku nicknamed the Belgian Flash. The Belgian Winger of Ghanaian descent penned down a five-year deal with the Cityzens on Thursday, August 24, 2023.

Doku joined the defending Premier League Champions from Ligue One side, Stade Rennais where he netted 10 goals in 75 appearances.

The youngster, who is known for his pace, creativity and dribbles, on February 12, 2023 completed 12 dribbles against Toulouse, becoming the first player in Europe’s top five leagues in the season to tally ten or more dribbles in a single match.

In what was an impressive start to the season for Rennes, Doku won 14 duels, most of any player on the pitch. All these and more make him a good addition to an already quality City side.

In an interview with his new side, Doku shared how excited he is, mentioning that he is built for the Premier League.

“I’m very excited, like the Premier League is a league that I always watch with my dad and my brother and on Sunday evening, Match of the Day,”

“And I think it’s a league that suits me so it will be a perfect match.

“I always knew that the Premier League was made and built for me.

“I played in Belgium, I played in France and I think that those were the right steps to prepare me for the Premier League.

“I can tell you now that I’m ready, but I will have to see.

“But I’m really confident. I have a lot of confidence in myself. So I think, with the help of the coaches and staff and the team, we’ll be going good.”

Given the pedigree of Manchester City- being treble winners in the past season and the winning mentality of the side, Doku is well aware of the pressure that comes with his decision to join the Club

“When you win three trophies or more in one year, you have a lot of pressure.

“I think there are pressures on the team and now I’m going to be part of the team, so there will also be a lot of pressure on me.

“But I like pressure so will be good. People will be not afraid, but they will give their best because we are the team to beat and I think that’s a good thing.”

Doku will wear the number 11 shirt, as City hope to fill the gap left on their thanks following Riyad Mahrez’s departure to Saudi Arabia.
