Bendel Insurance got a 4-3 victory via penalties over Algerian Side, ASO Chlef, in the second leg of the CAF Confederation Cup first-round tie on Saturday at the Salem Mabrouki Stadium in Algeria.

The Nigerian Federation Cup winners got the better of the Algerian side, despite a 1-0 loss in regulation time to take the game to the game to penalties where they got a 4-3 victory.

It was a two-legged affair and Bendel Insurance won the first leg 1-0 at home.

Bendel Insurance Shot-Stopper, Amas Obasogie

ASO Chlef missed a chance to take the lead Midway through the game in the 35th minute when they failed to convert from the spot, with Insurance shot-stopper, Amas Obasogie making an incredible stop.

The Algerian side eventually broke the deadlock after 41 minutes of action, right before the halftime mark, capitalizing on an exposed Insurance defence and providing a lifeline in the tie.

ASO Chlef’s goal meant that the tie was level on aggregate but still needed a penalty shootout to decide the winner as the Benin Arsenals made sure to avoid a second goal from the home side.

Amas Obasogie proved to be the Superhero on the night for the Benin side, making about 10 saves. Two saves from the spot – one in regulation time and the other in the penalty shootout.

The Benin Arsenals will now contend with 2022 champions RS Berkane in the next round for a slot in the Group Stage.
