The Buoye Omuso (Brown) House of Finima in Bonny Local Government Area of Rivers State has added her voice to the clamour for more local governments to be created from the current Bonny LGA.

The Brown House, one of the chieftaincy houses of Bonny Kingdom, said her position is predicated on the fact that Finima and its adjoining communities have the capacity to exist as a local government area of its own, especially, with regards to its economic viability.

Tammy Brown

The Chairman of Asawo in Buoye Omuso (Brown) House in Finima, Tammy Brown, came out with the position in a telephone interview with Kristina Reports on Tuesday, June 1, 2021 in Bonny.

He commended the move, which he described as “a positive development”, expressing the optimism that the National Assembly would grant the request for the creation of more LGAs from the existing one.

“It’s a good move and we welcome such progress coming. It’s a positive one for Bonny.”

“We are fully in support of the move, though we are not aware of the moves but as long as it’s bringing positive development. We pray it goes through.”

Bonny Kingdom had, under the under the aegis of Concerned Associations of Grand Bonny Kingdom on Thursday, May 27, 2021, presented a position paper titled “Grand Bonny Kingdom Position on the Review of the Constitution of the Federal Republic Of Nigeria, 1999 (as Amended)” at the Zonal Public Hearing on Constitutional Review organized by the Senate, which held in Port Harcourt on May 27, 2021.

According to the Chairman of the Bonny Kingdom Education Trust Fund, Opuada Willie-Pepple, who made the presentation on behalf of the associations which comprised the Bonny Women’s Forum (BWF), Bonny Gentlemen’s League (BGL), Bonny Youth Federation (BYF), Bonny Lawyers Forum, Bonny Kingdom Study Group, among others, the demands, among several others, include the creation of three more local government areas from the existing one to make four local government areas.

These are Bonny Central, Bonny South, Bonny West and Bonny East LGAs with headquarters at Bonny, Finima, Peterside and Oloma, respectively.

Tammy Brown, who is a member of the Chartered Institute of Personnel Management (CIPM) and Chartered Institute of Human Resources Management (CIHRM), among other professional bodies, however, differed on the preferred nomenclature for Bonny South, saying it should rather be “Abaji-Toru LGA with headquarter in Finima”.

According to him, a similar demand with the nomenclature – Abaji-Toru LGA – had been made to the National Assembly during the time of a son of the soil, Reginald Wilcox as Commissioner for Power in Rivers State.

“I wanted to add that we had made a similar submission initially before the death of late Reginald Wilcox with the name Abaji-Toru LGA.”

He further asserted that the Abaji-Toru LGA, when created will have the wherewithal to thrive in terms of governance, economic sustainability, social structures and other criteria, urging the National Assembly to expedite action on acceding to the demands.
