Run An Inclusive Administration, Kristina Reports Charges NUJ Aspirants

The need to run an all-inclusive administration in the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) has been reemphasized just as the call was made to entrench mentoring and capacity building among Journalists as a way of deepening Media practice in the country.

Chairman of Kristina Reports’ Chapel of NUJ, Boma Waribor came out with this when he received the Consolidation Campaign Team of aspirants vying for the various elective offices in the forthcoming elections of the NUJ Rivers State Council which visited the Kristina Reports Head Office of in Port Harcourt on Thursday, July 22, 2021.

“We want an NUJ leadership that will not discriminate, but carry everyone along and ensure that we get the necessary benefits of mentorship and training from our Professional body.”

“Just like you came here, other campaign groups are also coming, but our interest is, which of the teams will better serve the interest of our members.”

Addressing the campaign team led by its Director General, Boye Salau, and Chairmanship candidate, Stanley Job Stanley, the Kristina Reports’ Chapel Chairman urged the Consolidation Team Chairmanship candidate to eschew discrimination and focus on initiatives that would help achieve an upscale in the professionalism, competences and welfare of Journalists.

“In Kristina Reports, as well as in other Media houses, there are many young Journalists who need support that can make us grow.”

“We have over 20 Journalists who are practicing and are ready to support any team that will show us clearly that they will fulfill the very essence of NUJ, not just about what they stand to benefit from leading the union. So, we wish you well and hope that if you emerge you all will implement your promises to our union.”

Earlier, Director General of the Consolidation Campaign Team, Boye Salau, while canvassing for support of the Chapel to their candidates, assured the Kristina Reports Chapel that they will fulfill all their campaign promises judging from the performance of the outgoing Chairman and Secretary.

The Consolidation Team Director General charged Journalists to resist attempts to entrench people of questionable character and those who have been found complicit in financial misappropriations in the leadership spectrum of the NUJ, which he described as the watchdog of society, even when they are so audacious in seeking to occupy positions of trust, calling on Journalists to discountenance bogus claims of desperate power seekers and embrace the Consolidation Team.

On his part, Chairmanship candidate of the Consolidation Campaign Team, Stanley Job Stanley, who is also the incumbent Chairman of the NUJ Rivers State Council, assured that if re-elected for a second term in office, would ensure that more members are sent for capacity building trainings.

He further pledged to build a recreational center at the State Secretariat, seek for better welfare for members, subsidise the price of goods and services at the Secretariat, and fight for members who may be victimized by their employers or institutions of government, appealing to members of the Chapel for their support and votes during the forthcoming elections.

In the delegation of the Consolidation Campaign Team during the visit were six other candidates contesting for other positions including; Okechukwu Maru for Vice Chairman, Ike Wigodo for Secretary, Esther Obialor for Assistant Secretary, Doris Morrison-Tams for Treasurer, Ominini Leslie Wokoma for Auditor General while Miebaka Fubara is seeking to be the Financial Secretary of the Council.

In attendance, were the Head, Press Unit, Office of the Deputy Governor, Owupele Benibo; Deputy Campaign Director General of the Consolidation Team, Anita Ogonna; Kristina Reports’ Head, Political Desk, Iwo Romgbo; Head, Collaborations and Partnerships, Emmanuel Nwafor; Legislative Correspondent, Kingba Jacks; and Entertainment Correspondent, Cleverline Allison, among others.

The NUJ Rivers State Council Elections and Triennial Delegates Conference is scheduled to hold on Thursday, August 5, 2021, at the Ernest Ikoli Press Center, Moscow Road, Port Harcourt.
