Rivers State under the leadership of Governor Nyesom Wike has been applauded as a clear example of gender parity and affirmative action in the political empowerment of women.

Chairman of Bonny Local Government Area, Dame Anengi Barasua, who said this today during a live News and Current Affairs Programme, “STEWARDSHIP”, on Rivers State Television (RSTV), promised that her administration would be people-centered with its core focus on Security, Sanitation, Capacity Building and Infrastructure.

Dame Barasua further stated that given a balanced system that provides the advantage of benefiting from the potentials of both genders as entrenched by Governor Wike, it was clear that Rivers State remains the best example of states with women in politics in Nigeria, extolling the Rivers State helmsman, Nyesom Wike for believing in women.

So far, Rivers State has two women as Chairman of LGAs and 21 Vice Chairmen across the State, which was a result of the consensus decision championed by Wike before his party stakeholders during the 2019 and 2021 local government elections that women occupy all the 23 Vice Chairman positions.

With the death in office of the Chairmen of Asari-Toru and Bonny LGAs, Odiari Princewill and David Irimagha, respectively, their Vice, Alaso Johnbull-Obi and Anengi Barasua, emerged as substantive Chairmen after being sworn into office by the Governor.

Frontloading her administration’s policy thrust, the Bonny LGA boss disclosed that her administration was already deploying a twin-pronged approach to nip the security challenges facing the area in the bud, stressing that a robust collaboration with security agencies by way of logistics support and synergy with the people is on course.

“Bonny Local Government under my watch will not tolerate security breaches and other antisocial vices” she stressed.

The Bonny LGA Chairman joined well-meaning Nigerians across the country to call on Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike to contest the 2023 Presidential elections, stressing that he has demonstrated capacity both in Rivers State and beyond as a mobilizer, bridge builder and sacrificial leader, adding that the cap should only be worn by who it best fits.
