Our attention has been drawn to a publication made by one Harrigan Adango Pepple, who claims to be the Chief of Jack Manilla House, casting aspersion on the Amanyanabo and Natural Ruler of Grand Bonny Kingdom, His Majesty, King Dr. Edward Asimini William Dappa Pepple III, CON, JP, Perekule XI, and our dear supervising Chief, the Chief and Head of the Fubara Manilla Pepple Chieftaincy House of Grand Bonny Kingdom, Se-Alabo Barr. Waripanye Valentine Pepple, Fubara XV, and attempting to discredit the progressive move of the leadership of Grand Bonny Kingdom to restore normalcy and harmony in Olom Abalama (Oguede) Community in Bonny Local Government Area.
We would have ignored the said advertorial published in Tide Newspaper given the lack of relevance and mix-up of issues and barefaced falsehood contained therein but for the sake of concerned members of the House and the general public who may not fully comprehend or have all the facts related to the issue under review, we wish to clarify as follows:
- The Chieftaincy House that inaugurated a Caretaker Committee is the Jack Manilla Pepple House, a minor chieftaincy house in Bonny Kingdom which is an offshoot of the Fubara Manilla Pepple House and also has the Chief and Head of the latter as its supervising chief being a Kalawari (Jack Manilla Pepple) to the Opuwari (Fubara Manilla Pepple) from time immemorial and will remain so. It is not the same as Harrigan Pepple’s purported chieftaincy house, Jack Manilla House. He has asserted this in different public fora that he does not belong to the Jack Manilla Pepple House. We wonder why he is still interested in our House and not concerned with the running of his own House, where he claims to be the Chief.
- The Caretaker Committee inaugurated by Se-Alabo Waripanye Pepple is aimed at closing the leadership gap in the House as we all know that nature abhors vacuum. It was not done in secret nor its terms of reference a secret as it was read out in the open by the inaugurating Chief. Also, contrary to Harrigan Pepple’s claims, the goal of setting up the CTC has nothing to do with removing or making any chief as the Jack Manilla Pepple House currently has no chief and the Elders Council of the House have not even contemplated discussing anything related to making a chief.
- In setting up the CTC, Se-Alabo Waripanye Valentine Pepple, adhered to all known protocols for setting up a CTC in a traditional setting by consulting with the elders of the House and securing the approval of the Amanyanabo-in-Council.
- It is surprising that Harrigan Pepple has sustained his attacks on Sir Iganima Pepple, who is junior to him in age and only a concerned member of the Oguede Community. Since Iganima Pepple asked him to render accounts of the finances of the community, he has prioritized him in his attacks and blackmail. Is it wrong to ask questions about the commonwealth of one’s community?
- On the allegation that Sir Iganima Pepple was saying at the court that Amanyanabo asked them to present a chief, in-council as soon as possible, it is something of concern that someone like Harrigan Pepple who claims to be educated, exposed and enlightened could make such claims. Let us assume without conceding that such farce ever happened, why would Iganima choose a court premises to say such, when he could as well say it in the confines of his bedroom or travel to Oguede Community or anywhere else to say such? Who was he saying it to? Was it Harrigan Pepple who has not been on talking terms with him for years now? It appears his desperation is forcing him to blackmail people who have no issues with him. He needs to see a doctor for help, please.
- As per the various court cases he referenced, is Iganima Pepple a party to any of them? It is unfortunate that Harrigan Pepple always wants to always drag the innocent man into his shenanigans. The matters in court are between Hon. Aboma Pepple versus the Wariseniapu of the House, Harrigan Pepple and the Bonny Chiefs Council, and so on. Iganima Pepple is not a party to any of these suits. Nevertheless, it is important to state that the Jack Manilla Pepple House is a law-abiding House and will always respect the decision of the court and cannot in any way disrespect or do anything to undermine any matter before the court. We further submit that the House is ready and willing to abide by the decision of the court.
- Lastly, we note with dismay the audacious and outrageous threat by Harrigan Pepple to repeat the mayhem that happened in Finima over their chieftaincy issue in Oguede Community. From the tone and wordings of the threat, he makes no disguises that he has plans to cause crisis in the community if he does not have his way. We, consequently, appeal to the Executive Chairman of Bonny LGA, Dame Hon. Anengi Claude-Wilcox, JP, the Heads of the various security agencies in Bonny LGA to take note of Harrigan Pepple’s threats and take proactive steps to stop him from achieving his ugly agenda.
We urge every member of Olom Abalama (Oguede) Community and Jack Manilla Pepple House to remain calm and law abiding and refuse to allow themselves to be affected by any act or statement of provocation from enemies of the community. We shall overcome.
