The Nigeria Police says it was on the trail of the person who made the fake post on Facebook alleging that two children were kidnapped in Bonny, headquarter of Bonny Local Government Area

Also, the Chairman of Bonny LGA, David Irimagha has declared that there was no kidnap incident in Bonny today and no child was abducted.

In the same vein, the Director of the Bonny Local Government Education Authority, Pastor Monday Omubo stated that no such incident happened in the two schools – Government School and Model Primary School – domiciled in the same premises.

“We have checked with all the pupils in all the classes in both schools and none of them was missing. Both Head teachers confirm that no child was missing in their classes. Please disregard any such news.

Kristina Reports checks indicate that the Bonny LG Chair visited the school for an on-the-spot assessment of the situation.

He was accompanied on the visit by the Leader of the Bonny Legislative Assembly, Rt. Hon. Miriam Hart, her deputy, Hon. Dipinye Jumbo, the Divisional Police Officer, Bonny, Shuaib Achigili, and the Commander of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), the Secretary to the Bonny Local Government Council, Omoni Longjohn, Chief of Staff to the Chairman, Uriel John-Jumbo, among others.

In a statement by his Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Williams Ogbah Agwu, the Bonny LG boss asserted that the information was false, urging parents and guardians to remain calm as the safety of their children and wards were assured.

The statement reads: “The Executive Chairman of Bonny Local Government Area, Hon. Engr. David Rogers Irimagha says there was no kidnap incident in Bonny today and no child was abducted.

A call had to the Chairman today, while in a meeting, reporting a case of kidnap at Government School, Bonny, and immediately, the Chairman called the Divisional Police Officer, Bonny, and the Commander of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).

They both accompanied Irimagha to the school but on reaching there it was discovered that the news was false as nothing of such happened.

Some persons including staff members were invited to the Bonny police station for questioning. They have since made useful statements that will assist the police and other security agencies to investigate the source of the false alarm.

Hon. Engr. David Rogers Irimagha pleads with everyone to remain calm and go about their normal activities as the security agencies where working round the clock to ensure the safety and security of everyone in the area.”

In a telephone chat with Kristina Reports, the Bonny DPO, Shuaib Achigili disclosed that the police was on the trail of the Facebook user (name withheld) that made the post that threw the serene island community into chaos earlier today.
