Nonwa Community Installs New Paramount Ruler in Tai LGA

The Nonwa Community in Tai Local Government Area of Rivers State, has crowned a new traditional ruler following the demise of late monarch, HRH Emmanuel Nubue Nyiedam.

The traditional rites for the coronation were conducted on Wednesday, April 22, 2026 which Chief Tormakara Castro Nyiedam, was crowned as the new traditional ruler of the community.

The coronation was carried out by the community’s traditional priest, Chief Timothy Amaabana Caleb, in accordance with established customs and was installed a week earlier with the aimed responsibility of performing the burial rites before the new ruler is ushered in.

Chief Tormakara Castro Nyiedam emerged as the Mene-buen (Paramount Ruler) of the community, bringing to an end the succession process after the death of the late monarch. The burial of the late ruler is however, later scheduled for Saturday, April 25, 2026.

Chief Nyiedam, who hails from the Gha-gbe Royal House of Amaabana, is expected to serve as the administrative and representative head of the community, while working in alignment with the spiritual authority of the priesthood.

The installation ceremony was attended by community members and marked a key transition in the traditional leadership structure of Nonwa.
