Monarch Urges Peace, Unity for Development at Presentation of Fubara Manilla Pepple Chief

“You may disagree with me but don’t stop the development of Bonny Kingdom because the development is for all of us.”

With these words, the Amanyanabo and Natural Ruler of Bonny Kingdom, His Majesty, King Dr Edward Asimini William Dappa Pepple III, CON, JP, Perekule XI, harped on the need for peace and unity as a veritable plank upon which to catapult Bonny Kingdom into its agelong envisaged developmental status as a destination of choice for Tourism.

He said this when he received into the Bonny Chiefs Council (BCC), the Chief and Head of the Fubara Manilla Pepple Chieftaincy House of Bonny Kingdom, Chief Waripanye Valentine Pepple, Fubara XV, at the King Perekule Palace, Bonny on Tuesday, December 28, 2021.

In line with Ibani Customs and Tradition, Chief Waripanye Valentine Pepple was presented by the Elders of the House led by the Chairman, Hon. Sunju Bluejack, to the Chief and Head of Captain Hart House, Se-Alabo Reginald Hart, who in turn presented him the Chairman of the Bonny Chiefs Council (BCC), Se-Alabo Dagogo Wilcox, who then presented him to and was received by the Amanyanabo-in-Council.

With this presentation/reception, the Fubara Manilla Pepple House Chief become an Ibani (Bonny) Country Chief and effectively brings to an end the tortuous journey of restoring to the BCC the Chief and Head of the second chieftaincy house in Bonny Kingdom.

Se-Alabo Waripanye Valentine Pepple, a legal practitioner and ordained pastor of the Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministry, and Chairman of the Bonny-Bodo Road and Bridges Project Monitoring Committee, had earlier been installed as the Chief and Head of the Fubara Manilla Pepple House on Saturday, September 14, 2019.

King Perekule XI drew the attention of his kinsmen to the development imperatives confronting the Kingdom, stressing that the time was now for Bonny Kingdom to take the leap and entrench development across its communities, calling on them to bond together in the spirit of brotherhood with a view to forging a common front to tackle the collective challenges facing the kingdom.

He pointed at the Bonny/Bodo Road project, the Nigeria LNG train 7 project, Federal Government proposed deep seaport, the Bonny Ring Road, among others that would change the topography and socio-economic, socio-cultural and socio-political template of Bonny LGA, emphasizing the urgency of the imperative to brace up for the inherent challenges these would confer on the island.   

In his acceptance speech, the newly inducted Se-Alabo of Bonny Kingdom thanked the Amanyanabo-in-Council, members of the BCC, titled citizens of the kingdom, elders of the Fubara Manilla Pepple House, and all other stakeholders for the success of the presentation, assuring the King that the House, under his leadership, would avail the needed support to achieve his lofty goals for Bonny Kingdom.

He stated that regular meetings will be held with elders and members of the House with a view to onboarding synergy and entrenching a sense of belonging, informing that decisions would be subjected to brainstorming sessions to refine them and ensure they are generally acceptable and impactful when implemented, adding that “we will discard all those things that have negated our status in the kingdom; we will act as people who are ready to defend the throne”.  

In his goodwill speech, Se-Alabo Reginald Hart, who was a one-time Chairman of the BCC, urged the new Country Chief to focus on kingdom development through collaborative engagement with other stakeholders and Amanyanabo-in-Council, and in-house harmony with his people by ensuring that everyone is carried along and opinions captured in moving the house forward.

Earlier, Se-Alabo Waripanye Valentine Pepple was conveyed in the Fubara Manilla Pepple House gig, Fubara to the Coal Beach, Bonny, from where he was joined by his wife, Alabota Gillian Pepple, his son, Terna Waripanye Pepple, and escorted on foot by the Otobo masquerade, elders and members of the House, and representatives of the Ibaniwari Group of Houses, among others to the King Perekule Palace.

According to Bonny Kingdom historical records, the Fubara Manilla Pepple Chieftaincy House was created as War Canoe House in 1740 by King Perekule I for his first son, Adum-Fubara Pepple and later metamorphosed into a full Chieftaincy House in the 1757. Prince Adum-Fubara Pepple later became King upon the transmigration of his father, thus emerging King Perekule II.
