In response to the outcry over the harsh effects of the impromptu lockdown imposed by the Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike on Bonny Local Government Area, Chairman of the LGA, David Irimagha says arrangements were being made to provide palliatives to residents of the area in the coming days.

Wike imposed the lockdown on the night of Saturday, June 20, 2020, as a way of checkmating the spread of the novel coronavirus in the area.

In a statement he personally signed, Irimagha stated that key stakeholders were working round the clock to ensure that key interventions were made to cushion the effect of the lockdown on residents, explaining that this was to ensure that the main goal of the lockdown was no0t defeated.

“Also being worked out are modalities for another round of palliatives for Bonny to cushion the difficulties our people are facing in this lockdown, this is in addition to other batches of palliatives we have received and distributed in past few months.”

The Bonny LG Boss, who disclosed that “immense progress has already been made in these meetings,” and that “the results of these high level engagements and strategic planning will be made public shortly,” stressed that his administration “will continue to work with various stakeholders to fight out this deadly scourge”.

So far, the lockdown has been effective in virtually every part of the LGA as people have been indoors and business shut down in the past four days.
