Excitement as King/Queen of Mathematics Contest Season 4 Kicks Off

Excitement, anticipation and determination to clinch the ultimate prize of N1,000,000 pervaded the air as students from various secondary schools in Bonny Local Government Area of Rivers State converged at the Government Girls Secondary School, Finima for the much advertised fourth edition of the King/Queen of Mathematics Contest 2021.

The competition, which is anchored by a non-governmental organization, the G30 Ibani Voice, with sponsorship from the Office of the Lawmaker representing Bonny Constituency of the Rivers State House of Assembly, and DavFub Nigeria Limited, among others, has a whopping N1,000,000 and N500,000 for the senior and junior categories, respectively.

Announcing the kick-off of the competition on Monday, November 29, 2021, President of G30 Ibani Voice, Dr. Fubara Dan-Jumbo, who was represented by the Secretary General of the organization, Godswill Hart, stated that the competition was one of the corporate social responsibility (CSR) offerings of the organization, noting that it was anchored on Education which is one of the vehicles for driving youth empowerment.

He further stated that the competition focuses on Mathematics because it is one of the cardinal fields of study and critical to success in every other field of human endeavour, stressing that the King or Queen of Mathematics will reign for one year and be entitled to several privileges, thus urging the participants to give their best in order to win the ultimate prizes.    

At the end of the preliminary stage of the competition, which was a written test involving five students from each of the secondary schools in Bonny LGA, both public and private, the independent examiner, Edmund Okparaodu, who conducted the written test, announced 8 students as successful and will proceed to the next stage.

In the Senior Category, Abinye Prosper (Faith Academy); Bluejack Nelson, Simon-Hart Sylvia (Lucille Education Centre); and Oluwadare Oluwasegun (Kings and Queens College), emerged; while Hart Gideon and Ivana Edun (Lucille Education Centre); Dappa Prinye (Faith Academy), and Greatness Egwuda (Heaven on Earth Academy), emerged in the Junior Category.

Successful candidates from both categories will now contest against each other at the semi-finals billed for Wednesday, December 1, 2021, from where three candidates per category will emerge. These will now contest for the ultimate prizes at the Grand Finale at Ibanise Hall, Akiama, Bonny on Saturday, December 4, 2021.

Dignitaries expected at the Grand Finale include the lawmaker representing Bonny Constituency in the Rivers State House of Assembly, Hon. Abinye Pepple, the State Commissioners for Education, Professor Kaniye Ebeku, and Youth, Hon. Prince Ohia, the Chairman of Bonny LGA, Dame Anengi Barasua, chiefs, captains of industry, and heads of educational institutions, among others.

The G30 Ibani Voice has, in recent years, been the vanguard for the resuscitation of Education in Bonny and Rivers State through advocacy, organizing of quiz competitions, donation of educational aids and support for teachers.
