The inclusion of the Super Eaglea defender in the PFA Scotland Team of the Year highlights how quickly he has adapted to life in the Scottish Premiership.

The 24-year-old Nigerian centre-back featured regularly for Rangers across all competitions, making 28 appearances in a season that firmly established him as a key figure in the squad.

His performances did not go unnoticed beyond club football, as his strong form also contributed to a debut call-up for the Nigerian national team.

Known for his composure on the ball and aerial strength, he has become one of the most reliable defenders in the league.

The Rangers defender stood out in a team selection that featured a mix of top performers from across the league.

While the final XI was heavily influenced by players from clubs like Motherwell, Hearts, and Celtic, Fernandez was among the few selected from Scotland’s traditional top two sides, Rangers and Celtic.

Motherwell led the way with five players in the team, while Hearts also had strong representation.

Celtic’s Benjamin Nygren was included as the league’s top scorer. Fernandez’s presence in such a competitive selection further underlines the level of his breakthrough season at Rangers.

The defensive line also included Hearts duo Craig Halkett and Harry Milne, alongside Motherwell goalkeeper Calum Ward and other standout midfield and attacking names such as Elliot Watt, Elijah Just, Lawrence Shankland, and Claudio Braga.

Reflecting on his achievement, Fernandez expressed pride and gratitude after being named in the PFA Scotland Team of the Year.

“I am delighted to be included in the PFA Team of Year and it means a lot to me. I have enjoyed my debut season with Rangers, and it has gone better than I ever dreamed it could.
