Benin Shook by Tornadoes, Kano’s Pillar Fall, All the Action from MD 28 in the NPFL

Bendel Insurance of Benin suffered a devastating 3-1 home loss to Niger Tornadoes, while Kano Pillars crumbled in the hands of the Peoples Elephant in a 5-0 loss in the Matchday 28 of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) on Wednesday, April 3, 2024.

Enyimba left no stone unturned in the “Zobia Classico” against Kano Pillars. Eze Ekwutoziam opened the scoring for the defending champions in the 13th minute, Chijioke Mbaoma then doubled Enyimba’s lead for his 13th goal of the season, 22 minutes later.

Joseph Atule slotted in his first of the game and the third of the encounter to give the Elephants of Aba a comfortable lead at the break. 25 minutes into the second 45, Joseph Atule picked up where he left off for a brace before Alade Muyiwa worsened the visitor’s ordeal with the fifth.

According to OptaNigeria, Kano Pillars’ 5-0 defeat at Enyimba is their heaviest league defeat since a 5-0 loss to Julius Berger in April 2002 – 22 years ago.

In Benin, Bendel Insurance got stunned by Niger Tornadoes but the Benin Arsenals were not the only side subjected to a home loss, as relegation-threatened Akwa United got beaten by out-of-form Doma United, 1-0, at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium.

Baba Ganaru’s men had the better of the chances but could not get the ball into the back of the net in the 90+ minutes of action.

With both coaches new to the teams set up and needing a win to start their campaign on a high, it was Coach Bala Abubakar of Doma United who came out tops and ended his side’s 10-game winless run.

Table-toppers, Enugu Rangers secured a 2-0 victory over Sunshine Stars to go 10 games unbeaten and go three points clear of Enyimba who sit second.

Substitute, Fabby Clark ensured Bayelsa United got all three points against relegation-bound Heartland FC as he slotted in his first League goal of the season at the death (92′)

In Lagos, Junior Lokosa opened the scoring for Sporting Lagos in the 33rd minute, before winger and Lobi’s top scorer, Samuel Tiza, levelled the scores for the visitors with his seventh of the season.
