A New Bridge, A New Beginning: Residents Welcome Demolition for Borokiri–Okrika Link Bridge Project
Residents of the Borokiri community were filled with optimism today as demolition work officially commenced to pave the way for the construction of the long-awaited Borokiri–Okrika Link Bridge.
While demolition often signals disruption, today’s exercise was met with excitement by many community members who described the project as a long-awaited development that will improve connectivity, boost economic activities, and ease transportation challenges in the area.

The Chairman of the Project, Precious Tobin-George who spoke with Kristina Reports on Tuesday, July 7, 2026 during the exercise, expressed his delight at seeing the project finally take off. He said the commencement of demolition marks the beginning of a brighter future for the people of Borokiri and neighbouring Okrika, adding that generations have looked forward to improved access between the two communities.

Heavy equipment was deployed to the site as structures marked for removal were brought down under the supervision of officials. Residents gathered to witness the exercise, with many expressing hope that the bridge project would be completed on schedule.
The Borokiri–Okrika Link Bridge is expected to enhance movement of people and goods, stimulate economic growth, and improve access to social and commercial opportunities once completed.

For many residents, today’s demolition was more than the removal of old structures—it symbolized the first step toward a long-awaited infrastructure project that promises to transform lives and strengthen the connection between the two riverine communities.
