NUT Directs Members to Withdraw Services in Oyo
The National Union of Teachers (NUT) Oyo State Wing has issued an official notice directing all its members teaching in primary and secondary schools in the state to withdraw their services beginning from Monday, June 1, 2026 until further notice.
The directive is contained in a letter dated 31st May 2026 and signed by the Oyo State secretary of the union, Salami Olukayode.

According to Olukayode, the directive is as a result of what the union describes as continued detention of their members and learners by their abductors without any sign of their release, a situation he said has created fear and despair in teachers, discouraged parents from sending their wards to school, and caused tension and panic across the state.
While the union advises its members to remain law-abiding as they stay safe in their home, it calls on the government to intensify efforts towards bringing back the abductees safely and without any further delay.
The union further reiterates that it stands in solidarity with the victims and their families, as they continue to engage lawfully with the government to ensure that all the abductees return safely.
