‎Nonwa Chieftaincy Stool Controversy Dissipates with Formal Presentation of Paramount Ruler

The controversy that trailed the emergence of a new Paramount Ruler of Nonwa Community after the demise of the last incumbent seems to have simmered down with the ratification and presentation of Chief Tormakara Castro Nyiedam as the substantive Paramount Ruler.

Community Development Committee (CDC) Chairman of Nonwa Community, Dornubari Nwibari, announced this on the night of Monday, May 18, 2026 to a large crowd at the Town Square in Nonwa, Tai Local Government Area of Rivers State.

Kristina Reports learnt that after weeks of contention over the crowning of Chief Nyiedam as the Paramount Ruler of the community, the long-awaited consultative forum involving the Nonwa Council of Chiefs and Elders was convened to resolve the matter conclusively.

Rising from the meeting, which held behind closed doors at the Nonwa Town Hall, Nwibari, who administered the Community in acting capacity after the passing of the late paramount ruler in February 2026, announced the decision, instantly throwing the crowd into wild celebration.

Kristina Reports team on ground observed that sounds of jubilations echoed late into the night as family, friends and supporters of Chief Nyiedam sang round the Community with ecstatic joy.

Reacting to the development, the Personal Assistant/Media Aide to the new Paramount Ruler, John Mbara, told Kristina Reports that the event represents the victory of the ancestors over all the distractions and contentions that had surfaced to hinder a smooth transition of the chieftaincy stool in the ancient Community.

“This day shall remain a historic day in the land of Nonwa Tai, a day our ancestors shall smile upon from the sacred forests and ancient rivers of our land.”

“With one voice, one heart, and under the blessings of the gods of the land, the elders, chiefs, youths, women, and entire sons and daughters of Nonwa Tai Community have unanimously declared and recognized Chief Tormakara Castro Nyiedam as the Paramount Ruler of Nonwa Tai Community.”

Similarly, the Paramount Ruler, His Royal Highness, Chief Tormakara Castro Nyiedam, expressed his appreciation to the various stakeholders who worked to resolve the crisis and restore calm in the Community, acknowledging the roles of all the principal actors in the peace process.

He particularly extended a hand of fellowship to his major contender for the stool, Shehu Kagbara, saying, ‎”To my younger brother, Shehu Arise Kagbara, I sincerely admire your courage, strength, patience, and determination in standing firmly for your rights”.

“Indeed, the Amaabana Royal House is proud of you. Most especially, for choosing the path of peace and laying down the sword for unity and harmony, I remain deeply grateful and appreciative of your maturity, wisdom, and understanding.”
