If there were doubts as to the determination of the current leadership at the Bonny Local Government Council to execute a clean-up of the environment, implement urban renewal and entrench a conducive atmosphere for residents to live and chase their aspirations, an inspection tour by the incumbent Chairman of the LGA, Dame Anengi Barasua of strategic areas today put paid to such.  

The on-the-spot assessment and inspection of strategic locations by Dame Barasua was in preparation for the Yuletide and 25th Anniversary Celebration of His Majesty, King Dr Edward Asimini William Dappa Pepple III, JP, CON, Perekule XI, Natural Ruler and Amanyanabo of Grand Bonny Kingdom.

A statement by the Press Unit of the Bonny Local Government Council informed that during the inspection tour, which took place on Monday, November 29, 2021, the LG Chairman was accompanied by the Secretary to the Bonny Local Government Council, Amasenibo Ralph Jamaica, Chairman, Maintenance and Sanitation Sub-Committee of the Anniversary Organizing Committee, Amasenibo Blessing Ezekiel-Hart, and some of her aides.

The statement, which was not signed by any official of the government, stated that the Bonny LG Boss frowned at the spate of illegal structures obstructing access to drainages, water canals and roads in the area.

Addressing some residents during the tour, Dame Barasua ordered the removal of all illegal structures obstructing access areas within one week from Monday, November 29 to Friday, December 3, 2021.

She further ordered all boat owners, traders and other business people at the Coal Beach to vacate the area within one week for a comprehensive clean-up of the beach, which serves as the main entry point into the island.

Other areas visited during the inspection include the Abattoir and its adjoining market, Ikuba Square, Mission Road, Government Primary School compound, New Road, Willbros Pipeline Road and Workers Camp, all of which, on the orders of the Chairman will witness comprehensive clean-up in the next couple of days.

The Bonny LG Chief Executive stressed that going forward no illegal structure was permitted on the road side, and on drainage areas, warning that disobedience to her directive would attract stiff penalties.
