Chairman of Asari-Toru Local Government Area, Alaso Johnbull-Obi has warned against attempts at desecrating the revered throne of the Amanyanabo of Kalabari, stating that the current occupant, His Serene Majesty, King (Professor) Theophilus Princewill, Amachree XI is still alive.

Johnbull-Obi issued this warning today during a meeting between the Asari-Toru Local Government Security Council and the King Abbi Council of Chiefs, comprising Chiefs and Heads of the Abbi Group of Houses, in Buguma, the local government headquarters.

She urged all stakeholders including the traditional institution in the area to embrace peace and avoid a breakdown of law and order in Buguma and Kalabari Kingdom, at large.

The ASALGA boss decried the unfortunate attempt to breach the peace in Buguma and, ultimately, Kalabari Kingdom, at large, enjoining “the kingmakers to tow the path of peace and stop planning coup and illegal attempt to ascend the most revered throne of the Amanyanabo of Kalabari, particularly, when the throne is not vacant, which may cause crisis in land”.

“As the royal family and kingmakers, leading the entire Kalabari Kingdom, you are supposed to protect the customs and tradition.”

“When it comes to succession plan for the royal stool, you should ensure everyone is following all natural laws of the Kalabari Kingdom if and when the time for the installation of a new Amanyanabo comes.

“And this should be only when the throne is vacant due to death or other causes of the occupant of the throne not being able to discharge his duties, rather than violating the law.”

She condemned the attempt at installing a new king when the present King is not dead, describing such move as “a taboo and forbidden act”.

The ASALGA Chairman warned those responsible to desist from such act, stressing that any further attempt to breach the peace will come with dire consequences according to the laws of the land.

After much deliberation on the issues at stake, the ASALGA Security Council and the traditional rulers from the king making family in Kalabari Kingdom, “condemned the alleged criminal act by one Karibo Abbey Prince Orubo and his co-conspirators of breaking into the King Amachree Memorial Hall to commit sacrilege by attempting to install himself as King of Kalabari Kingdom.

They equally condemned the act of parading himself as the new King of Kalabari Kingdom when His Serene Majesty, Professor T. J. T. Princewill, Amachree XI, is still alive.

They also agreed that Chief Charles Daulphin Amachree, remains the Chairman of the Kalabari/Buguma Council of Chiefs, having been appointed by His Serene Majesty, Professor T. J. T. Princewill, to hold brief for him before he proceeded for medical vacation until he is back or otherwise.

It was further resolved that the key to the King Amachree Memorial Hall should be handed over to the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) Buguma Division, who is in charge of Asari-Toru Local Government, for security reasons.

the meeting also decided that all traditional gatherings for now remain outlawed unless permitted by the ASALGA Security Council, adding that any such meeting must applied for with the agenda of the meeting and attendees clearly stated in the application.
