Wasiu Falolu: ‘We did wonders’ despite Rivers United losing NPFL title to Enugu Rangers
Rivers United star Wasiu Falolu has described the club’s 2025/26 campaign as a successful one despite narrowly missing out on the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) title to Enugu Rangers.
The box-to-box midfielder shared an emotional message on his Facebook page after the season, thanking his teammates, coaches, and management for their efforts throughout the campaign.
Wasiu Falolu proud of Rivers United’s remarkable season
“Thank you Jesus for a successful season, first I want to appreciate my teammates, the coaching staffs and the management. Although we didn’t meet up with our target, but we did wonders as a group. We will come back stronger than ever. It was beautiful to share the stage with you all,” Falolu wrote.
Although Rivers United fell short in the race for the NPFL crown, the Port Harcourt-based club still enjoyed an impressive campaign under coach Finidi George.
The Pride of Rivers finished the season with 67 points from 38 matches, recording 19 wins, 10 draws, and nine defeats.
The Garden City side scored 44 goals and conceded 31 while securing a place in next season’s CAF Champions League for the second consecutive year.
The title race went down to the wire, with Rangers International eventually edging Rivers United to the championship, leaving the former Crown FC midfielder and his teammates to settle for a second-place finish.
Rivers United midfielder Falolu delivers strong debut campaign
Falolu joined Rivers United at the start of the 2025/26 season on a two-year contract after impressing in the Nigeria National League (NNL).

The midfielder attracted interest from Shooting Stars following his standout performances but ultimately chose to continue his development with Rivers United.
His first season in the NPFL proved productive, as he made 42 appearances across all competitions.
Falolu featured in 32 league matches, scoring two goals, while also finding the net once in 10 CAF Champions League appearances.
One of the highlights of his continental campaign came against Aigles FC, where he made his first CAF Champions League start.
The Finidi George side secured victory in the encounter to book a place in the second preliminary round of the competition.
Despite progressing, Rivers United’s continental journey later ended in disappointment as they finished bottom of their CAF Champions League group.
With another CAF Champions League ticket secured and a strong domestic campaign behind them, Falolu believes Port Harcourt outfit can build on this season’s achievements and mount an even stronger challenge for silverware next term.
