Three-Storey Building Collapses in Lagos, Several Feared Trapped
A three-storey building collapsed in the Alakija area of Lagos on Thursday, June, 25 2026, leaving an unspecified number off people trapped beneath the rubble.
The incident occurred around midday, causing panic among residents and business owners in the area as people rushed to the scene to assist victims before the arrival of emergency responders.

Eyewitnesses said several occupants were inside the building when it suddenly gave way.
“It happened within seconds. We heard a loud sound and the entire structure came down,” a resident said.
Emergency management officials and rescue personnel were mobilised to the scene to begin search and rescue operations, while security agencies cordoned off the area to prevent further casualties.
As of the time of filing this report, the exact number of persons trapped or injured had not been confirmed.
Rescue workers were seen removing debris as anxious relatives and residents gathered around the scene awaiting information about those believed to be inside the collapsed structure.
An official involved in the rescue operation said efforts were focused on locating survivors.
“Our priority is to rescue anyone still trapped and ensure they receive immediate medical attention,” the official said.
The cause of the collapse had not been determined at the time of this report, while authorities were expected to commence an investigation into the incident.
The latest collapse adds to growing concerns over structural failures in Lagos, where several buildings have collapsed in recent years, leading to calls for stricter enforcement of building regulations and safety standards.
