Super Eagles Firepower Hits Volkspark: Terem Moffi Joins HSV to Spearhead Bundesliga Ambitions
Imagine a forward who bullies defenders for 90 minutes, runs the channels relentlessly, and finishes with ice-cold precision—that is exactly what Bundesliga fans are getting as OGC Nice star Terem Moffi officially seals his transfer to Hamburger SV.
The 27-year-old Nigerian international has completed his medical at the Athleticum training ground in Volkspark, signed his contract, and bagged the iconic number 9 shirt.
The new left-footed focal point isn’t just arriving with raw physical talent; he brings a proven track record across Europe to boost the Hanseatic club’s frontline.
HSV board member for sport Kathleen Krüger said Terem was an excellent fit for the club’s approach, adding that his signing would provide greater depth and versatility in the centre-forward position while improving the team’s overall quality.
She also highlighted the striker’s extensive experience at the international level, noting that he could use that experience to help develop HSV’s young talents. Krüger expressed her delight at having Terem join the club and welcomed him to HSV.
Sporting Director Claus Costa also expressed his satisfaction with the signing, describing Terem as a striker who would be difficult for defenders to contain because of his physicality, determination and playing style.
According to Costa, the forward is capable of making runs behind the defence, has a strong presence inside the penalty area and possesses the quality needed to play effectively with his back to goal.
He added that the club believes Terem will bring extra firepower to the team and further increase the squad’s versatility.
Costa also stressed the importance of integrating the striker quickly ahead of the new Bundesliga season so that HSV can begin the campaign with energy and confidence.
At 27, the Calabar-born forward has built an adventurous career, scoring 88 goals and providing 13 assists in 228 competitive matches across six countries—including stints at FK Kauno Zalgiris, FK Riteriai, KV Kortrijk, FC Lorient, OGC Nice, and a recent loan at FC Porto.
Germany becomes his seventh frontier. With 23 caps and six goals for Nigeria—including a start alongside new teammate Jordan Torunarigha in October 2023—he brings genuine international pedigree to the squad.
“The coach was really convincing in our discussions. The location, with its fantastic fans, and the club’s overall direction also played a role in my decision,” Moffi said about his transfer.
“Even though HSV played in the second division for a few years, the club is still a big name, all over the world. When I told my father about the interest, he immediately knew which club I meant and was thrilled. For me, it was positively crazy. I’m all the happier now to be a part of the club’s history.”
The center forward added about his playing style:
“As a striker, I naturally love scoring goals, but I also love working for the team and keeping the whole group together. I’m the new guy in the team right now, which is always a bit strange at first, but I’m really looking forward to getting to know everyone and getting started together soon.”
