Pro-Biafra separatist agitator, Simon Ekpa, who was arrested by the Finland Police early Thursday, February 23, 2023, has been released, hours after he was arrested and grilled.
Earlier Thursday, Ekpa was seen been escorted out of his apartment in Lahti, capital of the region of Päijänne Tavastia, by the Finnish Police.
He took to Twitter to share a post after his released on Thursday evening.
The Finnish Central Criminal Police, which confirmed Ekpa’s release on Thursday evening through its spokesperson, Tommi Reen, also said he was being questioned on suspicion of a crime.
“The person being questioned today is suspected of a crime. We will return to the title on Friday,” Tommi Reen from the Central Criminal Police told HS Reports during a phone interview.
Ekpa, a Nigerian Finnish-based lawyer, rose to prominence when he was appointed lead broadcaster for Radio Biafra, associated with the separatist organization, Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) after the arrest of political activist and IPOB’s leader, Nnamdi Kanu.
After some weeks, he was sacked as the lead broadcaster by IPOB citing violation of the rules of the organization.
