This Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) Matchday 30 fixture proved costly for the Port Harcourt side as they struggled to find their rhythm against the Oga Boys.

Finidi George Side Faces Uphill Battle for NPFL Glory

After a promising run earlier in the season, this latest setback puts immense pressure on the league leaders.

The defeat marks the fifth time Rivers United has dropped points this season, leaving their title ambitions in a fragile state.

Despite a disciplined start to the match, the Finidi George side could not contain the home team’s energy in the second half.

The first 45 minutes remained a goalless affair, though Ikorodu City missed a couple of clear chances to take the lead before the break.

Following a scoreless first half, the game changed instantly after the restart. Ikorodu City’s tactical substitution paid off when Folarin Temitope replaced Dennis Mse.

Within just six minutes of entering the pitch, Temitope capitalised on a rebound after the Rivers United goalkeeper parried an initial shot from Salami Farouk.

Rivers United Title Lead Shrinks Ahead of Away Trip

The Pride of Rivers title lead has now been cut to just a single point, making the race for the trophy closer than ever.

After enjoying back-to-back wins against El-Kanemi Warriors and Bendel Insurance, the Garden City side have now slumped to consecutive losses, including a previous 2-1 defeat to Shooting Stars.

With eight games remaining and one match in hand, the squad must find a way to stop the poor run.

The road ahead does not get any easier, as the team prepares for two crucial away fixtures against Niger Tornadoes this Thursday and Nasarawa United on Monday.
