Max Verstappen got the 39th victory of his career, in Monaco. The Dutchman is now just two victories behind Ayrton Senna’s tally.

Alonso gave Verstappen a run for his money in the streets of Monaco, finishing almost 28 seconds behind at the chequered flag but Verstappen finished on top. Alonso claimed his fifth podium in six races with Aston Martin finishing second.

The rain brought chaos as one would expect. It saw cars hitting the barriers but Lance Stroll was the only driver to retire.

Carlos Sainz threatened Ocon’s podium finish in the early stages. Ocon also had to battle with Mercedes’, Lewis Hamilton during the showers but the Frenchman overcame to get a podium finish – third place. He becomes first Frenchman on the Monaco podium since Olivier Panis won back in 1996.

Carlos Sainz got the repercussions from a swirl in the wet conditions as he dropped from starting fourth to finish eighth.

Mercedes teammates Lewis Hamilton and George Russell finished fourth and fifth respectively. Russel was handed a five-second penalty for rejoining the circuit unsafely at Mirabeau but it did not rob him of his fifth place finish.

Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc, Pierre Gasly of Alpine and Carlos Sainz of Ferrari finished sixth, seventh and eight.

The McLaren pair Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri ended the race ninth and 10th, respectively.

Verstappen is looking to get his third Championship, with his teammate, Sergio Perez, right behind him with 39 points in standings.
