Our New Outlet Created Jobs, Local Content Compliant – The Promise

Integrated Catering Company Limited (ICCL), owners of The Promise brand today gifted the Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB), Simbi Wabote with news of its spectacular compliance with extant local content laws applicable in Nigeria.

Amidst controversies surrounding compliance to local content parameters in the Nigeria LNG Train 7 project, The Promise announced that 95 per cent of the staff in its brand new Fast Food Outlet and Industrial Catering Facility in Bonny commissioned on Thursday, April 15, 2021, in Bonny were sourced primarily from Bonny Island.

Chief Executive Officer of ICCL, Oluwatoyin Alabi, who disclosed this in an interview with Kristina Reports shortly after the commissioning ceremony, said the company worked in concert with the Bonny Integrated Recruitment Centre (BIRC) to achieve the feat of engaging residents of the area to work in its new facility.

In his keynote address, Executive Secretary of the NCDMB, Simbi Wabote praised the CEO/President of The Promise, Oluwatoyin Alabi, his management and staff for sustaining from inception in 2002 till date the trajectory of culinary excellence which has continue to generate repeat patronage over the years.

He further expressed delight in the opening of its outlet in Bonny Island, noting that its proximity to and potential for providing catering services to the Nigeria LNG project was strategic, urging other catering services providers to emulate the excellent strides of The Promise.

“I am impressed with the remarkable growth of the company since its establishment in the year 2000 and the beginning of its first operational outlet in July 2002 to the current 28 outlets spread across Rivers State, Lagos, Kwara and Bayelsa State.”

“Also noteworthy is that the company is a key catering service provider for onshore and offshore operations of major oil and gas companies operating in the Niger Delta.”

Earlier, the Director General of the Bonny Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (BOCCIMA), Constance Nwokejiobi had expressed excitement at the opening of The Promise’s new ultra-modern catering facility, describing it as part of the support for national content strategy aimed at promoting growth, advocacy, enhancing supply diversity and economic empowerment for local businesses.

This investment is part of our support for national content strategy to promote growth, advocacy, enhance supply diversity and economic empowerment for men and women owned businesses while leveraging the opportunity that exists within and outside the oil and gas sector to optimize businesses.”

On his part, Leader of the Bonny Youth Federation (BYF), Emmanuel Finecountry described the new outlet as “a welcome development”, saying that the youths and people of Bonny Kingdom were happy to have such of a facility in their land, urging the management of The Promise to allocate 80% of employment opportunities to indigenes of Bonny LGA.

In an interview with Kristina Reports on the sidelines of the event, Chairman of the Bonny Indigenous Caterers and Food Handlers Association, Ibifamam Allwell-Brown said The Promise’s brand new Fast Food Outlet and Industrial Catering Facility in Bonny was a milestone that has effectively put Bonny on the global food map.

“It is a milestone because what we are seeing here is a deliberate effort by Pastor Alabi to make sure that Bonny is known in the hub of activities when it comes to meeting demands of visitors we are expecting, especially, with the forthcoming train 7 project”

“We believe that based on what the Youth Leader has said he is going to carry Bonny people along and I, as the Chairman, will be part of the supervision and regulatory team to make sure that this aspect of training takes place and serves to train those that are in Bonny that need to follow this career path.”

The auspicious event was attended by several dignitaries including the President, D-Court Hotels, Dimieari Green, NCDMB’s general Manager, Capacity Building, Dr Ama Ikuru; Nigeria LNG’s General Manager, Production, Adeleye Falade; Manager, Nigerian Content, Charles Epelle, and Manager, Community Relations and Sustainable Development, Godson Dienye; and Megastar Technical & Construction Company’s Area Manager, Ishmael Boms, and Deputy Project Manager, Tolulope Abolade.

There were also the Divisional Police Officer, Bonny, represented by DSP Innocent Asukeudha, the Divisional Officer, Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Nelson Kaizer, a member of the Governing Council, Federal College of Education (FCE), Yola, Adamawa State, Dabota Godswill-Jumbo; a former Chairman, Caretaker Committee, Bonny LGA, Nelson Irimagha; Managing Partner/Chief Executive Officer, Entrepreneurship and Innovation Centre Limited, Chika Chinwah; and a delegation from the United bank for Africa (UBA) led by the Directorate Head of Rivers II Region, Ibisiki Eretoru, Business Manager, 14B Azikiwe Road Branch, Port Harcourt, Tina Ifesi, and Business Manager, Bonny Branch, Adango Hart, among others.
