Okey Bakassi Debunks Divorce Rumours, Says Marriage Remains Intact
Nigerian comedian and actor Okechukwu Onyegbule, popularly known as Okey Bakassi, has dismissed reports claiming that his marriage has collapsed, insisting that he and his wife remain together after celebrating their 25th wedding anniversary.
Bakassi addressed the controversy on Monday, October 12, 2026, after a viral social media post alleged that his wife had relocated to the United States with their children, pursued nursing studies and subsequently requested a divorce following years of financial support from him.

The entertainer described the claims as false and disrespectful, explaining that the publication had caused distress to his family and prompted calls from concerned friends, relatives and fans seeking clarification about his marriage.
In a video response, Bakassi said he was filming a new project when he learnt that an account on social media had circulated a story featuring his name and photographs of him and his wife.
“Please let me say to my friends, family, and fans that my wife and I are still together.”
“God forbid that anything happens to us,” he said.
The comedian explained that the report had generated concern among people who knew the couple, with some contacting both him and his wife to establish whether the claims were true.

He also rejected the allegation that his wife lived in the United States or worked as a nurse, clarifying that she resides in Canada.
“My wife and I, to the glory of God, just celebrated our 25th wedding anniversary in Canada,” Bakassi said.
The actor’s clarification came after a viral post on X attributed a statement to him claiming that he had spent 15 years working in Nigeria and sending money abroad to support his wife’s nursing education before she allegedly asked him for a divorce.
Bakassi denied the claims and criticised the circulation of the report without verification, urging people who encountered it to contact him or a member of his family before sharing such allegations.
He also called on his supporters to report the account responsible for the publication on X, arguing that the claims had caused unnecessary pain to his family.
The comedian said the incident had helped him identify people who genuinely cared about his family, particularly those who sought clarification instead of spreading the allegations.
Bakassi married his wife, Ezinne, on Saturday, September 1, 2001, in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, according to published biographical reports.
The couple marked their 25th wedding anniversary on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, weeks before the controversy emerged.
Their relationship reportedly began in 1988 in Port Harcourt, where they first met before pursuing further education and later reuniting to formalise their marriage.
The couple have three children, comprising two daughters and a son, whom Bakassi has described as central to his life and family priorities.
The actor’s response has redirected attention from the viral allegations to the importance of verifying information before publishing or circulating claims about people’s private lives.
As of Tuesday, October 13, 2026, the reports reviewed contain no independently verified evidence that the couple have separated or commenced divorce proceedings.
Bakassi has maintained that his marriage remains intact and urged friends, relatives and fans to disregard the claims circulating on social media.
