The member representing Khana/Gokana Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Dumnamene Dekor has lauded President Muhammadu Buhari and his Minister of Environment, Mohammed Abdullahi for their vision and political will to establish a specialist hospital in Ogoni which he said will address the yawning gap in the healthcare sector in Ogoni.
A statement from his office said Rt. Hon. Dekor also commended the duo for approving the establishment of two other projects in Ogoni namely: Centre of Excellence for Environmental Restoration, and Ogoni Power Project, respectively.
The federal lawmaker, who also doubles as the Chairman, House Committee on Host Communities, noted that the siting of the projects in Ogoni land would go a long way in assuaging the neglect and frustration the people have suffered following years of environmental pollution and degradation.
According to him, with the latest developments, Ogonis are now rest assured that their many years of sacrifice are not in vain, and can heave a sigh of relief and hope for a brighter future.
The former Deputy Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, and one-time Commissioner for Works, also congratulated the new Coordinator of the Hydrocarbon Pollution Remediation Project (HYPREP), Prof. Nanibarini Zabbey, whose appointment has just been confirmed by President Buhari.
While rejoicing with the new HYPREP Coordinator, Dekor said with a foremost indigenous expert in hydrobiology on the driver’s seat, there is hope for a pollution free Ogoni and life sustainable environment for all residents of Ogoni and Nigerians at large.
The Ogoni-born political strategist, who has just been re-elected into the House of Representatives for his constituency believes there should be a paradigm shift from the old ways of handling HYPREP activities in Ogoni with the new leadership.
He prayed and called for better understanding, deeper interest in the lives and the welfare of Ogoni people, and a synergy among all the gladiators in the Ogoni projects for the betterment of all Nigerians.
