A Nigerian, Ezinne Agaranwa has emerged the overall best graduating female student with a First Class Honours Bachelor of Science Degree in Information Technology from the Accra Institute of Technology, Ghana.

Agaranya, who was part of the graduation class of 2019, beat her colleagues with a cumulative grade point average (CGPA) of 3.97 to clinch the title.

“My decision to study at AIT was not only because the university was adjudged the Best Technology University in Ghana for four years running by the Ghana Tertiary Awards, but also because of the impressive teaching and learning resources and the quality of its academic programmes,” she said.

AIT has also been awarded the Best International Student Friendly University in Ghana medal for a number of years and ranked the best private university in Ghana for four years running by the Ghana Tertiary Awards, becoming the preferred destination for Nigerians who seek to further their university education abroad within the West African sub-region.

The 14th convocation ceremony of the institution was the fifth time a Nigerian student has emerged the overall best graduating student of the university both in the female and male categories.

Professor Clement Dzidonu

President of the university, Professor Clement Dzidonu, in an interview, stated that “AIT has made great strides over the past years in offering quality internationally-benchmarked undergraduate and postgraduate academic programmes being delivered and supported by qualified academic staff made up of a number of Ph.D. holders in various fields”.

AIT has over the past four years graduated over 500 Nigerians in various fields including Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Civil Engineering, Computer Engineering, Information Technology, Computer Science, and Business Administration, among others.

A number of Nigerian students over the years graduated with Bachelor’s, Master’s, as well as doctorate degrees from AIT.

Speaking at the 14th convocation ceremony of the university, which was attended by a number of parents and guardians of Nigerian students at AIT, Chairman of the AIT Board of Trustees, Professor Edward Ayensu announced that the University is churning out doctoral degree graduands for the sixth time since its establishment in less than ten years.

“This major achievement of a university which is barely ten years old makes AIT the first private university in Ghana to successfully offer and graduate students on an internationally benchmarked Ph.D. program. This is no small achievement if put within the context of the fact that the Ph.D. per capita of Ghana is extremely low,” he noted.

Accra Institute of Technology (AIT), ranked the top private university in Ghana, by Ghana Tertiary Awards, is an independent technology-focused university committed to academic excellence and cutting-edge scientific and industrial research and development work.

AIT is accredited by the National Accreditation Board (NAB) of Ghana to offer both campus-based and Open University undergraduate and postgraduate programs.

The University, for the fourth year running, won the 2019 Best Technology University in Ghana Award, instituted and awarded by the Ghana Tertiary Awards.

This came on the heels of the Best in Technology-Focused University 2018-Ghana Award by Global Business Insight of the United Kingdom.
