Ibom Air Makes First Lagos-Accra Flight, Hints at Regional Expansion

The Akwa Ibom State airline, Ibom Air, has made good its promise to fly the Lagos-Accra route with the launch of its first regional flight from Lagos, Nigeria to Accra, Ghana.

The maiden flight which departed the Murtala Mohammed Airport, Lagos, on Tuesday, October 17, 2023 at 7:45am landed at Kotaka International Airport, Accra at 7:45am local time and was greeted with a very warm reception upon landing.

The flight had on board celebrated Nollywood actors, Ini Edo and Joselyn Dumas, as well as Chief Operating Officer (COO) of Ibom Air, George Uriesi, and other notable passengers.

They were received at touch down by the Managing Director of Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL), Pamela Djamson-Tettey, represented by Kwame Baffor Awuah

Speaking on the feat, COO of Ibom Air, George Uriesi said that following the airline’s vision “to be a world-class African Regional Airline”, this expansion can be described as a strategic one, necessary to achieve the goals set out including being able to give passengers an industry level travel experience that is second to none.

He explained that the airline is very enthusiastic about the new route of travel and assured the Ghanaian officials as well as passengers that Ibom Air will continue giving them the best air travel experience.

“This is a significant step for Ibom Air as we expand our network out of Nigeria and into the African continent. With this new route, we aim to enhance connectivity between Nigeria and Ghana, fostering tourism, trade and tighter economic and cultural ties”

Receiving the airline, the Managing Director of Ghana Airports Company Limited, Pamela Djamson-Tettey, who was represented by Kwame Baffor Awuah, expressed happiness at Ibom Air’s achievement, saying that she looks forward to working with Ibom Air.
