LG Chairman’s Wife Advocates Exclusive Breastfeeding, Lists Benefits

As a way of commemorating the annual celebration of the World Breastfeeding Week, the wife of Okrika Local Government Chairman, Abiye Tobin has made a case for exclusive breastfeeding of babies, stating that it would aid adequate and healthy growth in children.

Abiye made this case during an interactive session with newsmen on Thursday, August 3, 2023 in Okrika, Rivers State, after visiting some health facilities in the LGA.

In a statement signed by the Chief Press Secretary to the Okrika LGA Chairman, Derefaka Ajubo, the Chairman’s wife said that the Tobin led administration has mapped out plans on how to improve quality of maternal, infant and child healthcare in the LGA.

Abiye posited that, although the process of exclusive breastfeeding is not easy, it is very important as this will help improve the immune system and mitigate cases of eventuality that require urgent medical attention aside immunisations

She added that the emphasis on exclusive breastfeeding is to ensure that the immune system of the babies will be strong and capable of resisting neonatal diseases and infection, encouraging nursing mothers to implement the policy.

This celebration is usually done on the first week of August, precisely 1-7. More than 130 countries the world over creates this awareness and put up actionable policies in themes bothering on breastfeeding.
