The people of Kwaya Kusar Local Government Area of Borno State have called on President Muhammadu Buhari to consider establishing a Federal College of Agriculture in their community.

They posit that Kwaya Kusar being mostly an agrarian community with majority of the indigenes and residents there being farmers, a tertiary institution with special focus on Agriculture would build the capacity of the people to perform better in the Agricultural sector and engender an economic boom in the area.

A stakeholder in the community, Abdulmumini Umar told Kristina Reports that should the Federal Government oblige the people of the area the request to establish the college of Agriculture in Kwaya Kusar it would serve the five local governments that constitute the Biu Emirate namely, Bayo, Biu, Hawul, Kwaya Kusar, and Shani Local Government Areas.

“Kwaya Kusar is the headquarters of Kwaya Kusar Local Government Area of Borno State, Nigeria. It has a land space of 732 square kilometres and a population of almost 100,500 as per the 2006 census. The inhabitants of the region and adjoining communities speak the Bura language.”

“They are mostly subsistence farmers. It is one of the four LGAs that constitute the Biu Emirate, a traditional state located in Borno State, Nigeria. So, establishing a College of Agriculture for us would mean providing our people with more opportunities to continue with their Education and help diversify into different sections of Agriculture.

Umar further pleaded with President Buhari to consider the leveraging funding from the North East Development Commission (NEDC) to achieve sustainability for the institution when established, as the products of the college would also help expand the scope of entrepreneurs in the nation’s agricultural sector.
