Lagos Health Commissioner, Akin Abayomi tests positive for COVID-19

The Lagos State Commissioner of Health, Professor Akin Abayomi has tested positive for COVID-19.

This was confirmed on Monday by Mr. Jubril Aremu Gawat, Senior Special Assistant on new media to the Lagos State governor.

Gawat took to his Twitter handle @Mr_JAGss and he wrote, “FLASH: The Lagos State Commissioner for Health, ProfAkinAbayomi has tested POSITIVE to the Coronavirus, he is doing well no symptoms.

“He will begin 14 days self-isolation and home care immediately and heycontinues to discharge his duty as Deputy Incident Commander.”

Lagos State, since the report of an index case of coronavirus in the country has been the epic centre recording more high cases of the disease than the rest of the states in the country.

According to the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), the state as at August 23, 2020 has a total of 17,894 confirmed cases of COVID-19, while 2,483 patients are on admission at isolation centres in the state.

Since February, the state has recorded 202 deaths of COVID-19 related cases.

Abayomi, until his contraction of COVID-19 been among top officials in the state managing emergencies of reported cases of the novel coronavirus.
