In commemoration of International Women’s Day 2025, the Chairman of the Bonny Kingdom Development Committee (BKDC), Amaopusenibo Amairigha Edward Hart, has celebrated the strategic input of women in actualizing diverse development initiatives across Bonny Kingdom.
Aligning with this year’s theme, Accelerate Action, Amaopusenibo Hart, in a statement made exclusively available to Kristina Reports, pointed out that these developmental projects and programmes target women with a view to expanding opportunities for them.

He noted that, as the coordinating body for development in Bonny Kingdom, the BKDC under his watch, has continued to ensure that the interest of women are captured and protected, emphasizing the urgent need to break down barriers hindering gender equality and to create more opportunities for women to thrive in all sectors.
Reflecting on the progress made over the years, he acknowledged the pivotal role of women in shaping Bonny Kingdom’s social and economic landscape, expressing delight over outstanding feats achieved by Bonny women in various endeavours.
He noted that while significant strides have been taken, more work remains to ensure that women are equipped with the resources, knowledge, and support necessary to succeed.
Under his leadership, the BKDC has overseen the implementation of various initiatives aimed at fostering women’s development, observing that through collaborations with different institutions and organizations, the Committee has ensured women acquired essential skills in entrepreneurship, leadership, and financial literacy through various training programs.

He said such programs organized by the government and private organizations include access to microcredit schemes, enabling them to start and expand their businesses, further strengthening the local economy; as well as health awareness campaigns that address maternal health, reproductive rights, and preventive healthcare.
He said the BKDC has been working closely with healthcare providers to ensure that more women have access to critical medical services and information given that it recognizes the importance of health and wellbeing in women’s empowerment.
Sir Hart highlighted the necessity of community involvement in driving lasting change, calling on community leaders, policymakers, and private organizations to join forces in eliminating obstacles that limit women’s progress.
He stressed that sustainable development can only be achieved when women are given equal opportunities to contribute meaningfully to society.
As Bonny Kingdom joins the world in celebrating International Women’s Day, Amaopusenibo Amairigha Edward Hart reaffirmed his commitment to building a more inclusive society where women’s contributions are recognized and amplified.
He urged every stakeholder to take intentional steps toward accelerating action, ensuring that the path to gender equality is not just envisioned but actively pursued.
