Igbo Youth Leaders Endorse Tinubu, Seek Greater Federal Representation for South-East

Youth leaders and stakeholders from the South-East have expressed support for President Bola Tinubu’s administration while calling for increased federal appointments for young people from the region.

The position was made known on Friday during the Igbo Youth Leaders and Stakeholders Convention held in Awka, Anambra State, where participants also endorsed the leadership of the South East Development Commission (SEDC).

Addressing delegates at the event, the convener of the convention, Chukwuma Okpalaezeukwu, described the establishment of the SEDC as a significant milestone for the South-East, noting that it has renewed hopes for accelerated development in the region.

He also acknowledged ongoing federal infrastructure projects, particularly road construction works across the South-East, which he said have demonstrated the Federal Government’s commitment to the zone.

Okpalaezeukwu, however, urged the Federal Government to create more opportunities for qualified youths from the region to participate in national governance through appointments into ministries, agencies and parastatals.

“We appreciate the steps already taken by the present administration, especially the creation of the South East Development Commission and ongoing infrastructure projects in the region,” he said.

He added, “There is still a need for greater inclusion of South-East youths in federal appointments because our young people possess the capacity, innovation and expertise needed to contribute to national development.”

The convention brought together youth leaders, community stakeholders and representatives from Igbo-speaking areas across the country, who emphasized the need for unity, development and increased participation of the South-East in national affairs.

Participants at the gathering maintained that expanding opportunities for young professionals from the region would strengthen national integration and promote inclusive governance.

The stakeholders also pledged continued support for initiatives aimed at addressing developmental challenges in the South-East while urging the Federal Government to sustain ongoing projects across the region.
