Frankfurt Awaits as Nollywood Film Festival, NEGA Set for July 31
The organisers of the Nollywood Film Festival Germany (NFFG) and the Nollywood Europe Golden Awards (NEGA) have intensified preparations for the 2026 edition, with the annual celebration of African cinema scheduled to hold from Friday, July 31 to Saturday, August 1, 2026, in Frankfurt am Main, Germany.
The two-day event will begin with the opening ceremony and film screenings at the Deutsches Filmmuseum (German Film Museum) on Friday, July 31, while the NEGA Awards Gala Night, which marks the closing ceremony of the festival, will take place on Saturday, August 12026, at Goethe University Frankfurt am Main, Pupille Kino Halle.

Organised by Ehizoya Golden Entertainment, the festival is led by Cultural Ambassador Isaac Izoya, with Felix Duke serving as Festival Nigeria Director.
According to the organisers, the festival has served as a bridge between African filmmakers and European audiences since its inception in 2002, while the Nollywood Europe Golden Awards has honoured excellence in the creative industry since 2014.
The organisers described the event as one of the biggest annual gatherings dedicated to promoting Nollywood and African storytelling outside the continent.
“We are the organizers of the Nollywood Film Festival Germany (NFFG), winner of the AfroNews/Ortel Mobile 2021 ‘Best African Festival in Germany’ Award.”
“NFFG serves as a dynamic platform for Nollywood (African) filmmakers to showcase their works to European audiences and Nollywood enthusiasts across the Diaspora,” the organisers said.
They added that the festival also functions as “an educational tool, helping African children abroad learn about their cultural heritage through film.”
Speaking on the NEGA Awards, the organisers said the gala night was created to celebrate outstanding achievements across the African creative industry.
“The Nollywood Europe Golden Awards (NEGA Awards) is a prestigious Gala-Nite closing ceremony that celebrates excellence within the industry.”

The organisers further stated that the combined festival has grown into one of the largest Nollywood celebrations in Europe.
“Together, NFFG and NEGA form the biggest celebration of Nollywood in Germany, offering a unique double-feature festival experience.”
“It’s an annual opportunity to connect, celebrate, and collaborate with Nollywood mega stars, stakeholders, and fans.”
Beyond recognising actors, actresses, filmmakers and producers, the organisers said the NEGA Awards also honour comedians, musicians, business leaders, politicians and cultural advocates whose contributions have positively projected Africa’s image and supported the growth of the Nigerian and African creative industries.
The organisers said the 2026 festival will continue its tradition of showcasing selected African films through screenings, while providing opportunities for networking, cultural exchange and collaboration between industry professionals from Africa and Europe.
According to the published festival guidelines, films selected for screening must have been produced within the last 24 months and, where necessary, include English subtitles for international audiences.
The festival also accepts multiple screening formats, including Digital Cinema Package (DCP), Blu-ray and online submissions.
Festival organisers said the event enjoys support from the Hessen State Ministry of Arts and Culture, the Embassy of Nigeria in Berlin, the Consulate General of Nigeria in Frankfurt, and the Nigeria Community Frankfurt am Main e.V., among other partners.
As of Thursday, July 2, 2026, the organisers had not announced the official nominees or recipients for the 2026 NEGA Awards, with publicity focused on inviting filmmakers, industry stakeholders and fans to participate in the annual celebration in Frankfurt.
