In a bid to enhance the learning environment for students at the Bonny National Grammar School (BNGS), Bonny, Evomec Global Services Limited (EGSL) has donated desks, chairs, book shelves, among other educational materials to the institution.

EGSL’s Project Manager, Elliot Akporie said this on Tuesday, March 5, 2024 during the presentation of the donated items to the Principal of BNGS, Gloria Amak at the school premises in Bonny, Rivers State.

He said the donation was a demonstration of the company’s commitment to prioritizing education, stressing that EGSL recognizes education as the cornerstone of societal development.

Expressing satisfaction with the initiative, the EGSL Project Manager noted the significant impact the donated items would have on the students’ academic experience, revealing that Evomec went beyond the initial request of 150 desks to providing 160 desks with chairs instead of the requested 150.

He stated that the gesture underscored the company’s dedication to supporting education, urging the school management, including the principal, staff, and students, to take proper care of the facilities to encourage further support from organizations like Evomec.

“Alright, as you can see or as you have witnessed today are future leaders were receiving lectures or teaching in a very deplorable condition and we thought it wise that we need to make it comfortable for them to be able to go into their classrooms, their principal’s office, and the staff office comfortably.

“So, what Evomec decided to do is that we went a step ahead of what we have been doing before by giving out notebooks. Today, we are here to give out chairs and tables for the staff.

“Do you know that the good thing about this is? They requested for about a 150 but because we saw the importance of education, we made it a 160. So, you can see the drive of Evomec to ensure that education is paramount so that tomorrow we know yes we have viable and well-trained leaders that can take us to the future that we all desire. So, that’s what happened today.

“For the school, we want to implore them to take proper care of what has been given to them because when you take proper care of what has been given to you and the person that gave to you comes and sees that you’re taking care of it properly, they will do more. But when we come here tomorrow and discover that all the chairs are bad or stolen. It will not be so good.”

“So, I am advising the school management right from the principal, the staffers and the students to take proper care of these things that have been done.

He appealed to other companies on the island to emulate the gesture by Evomec, pointing out that “this a very good project that affects the future. We are talking about investing in life because that is what is vital”.

“So, I want to enjoin every other company to ensure that they emulate what Evomec has done.”

In her response, the Principal of BNGS, Gloria Amak expressed gratitude for Evomec’s intervention, highlighting the persistent challenges faced by the school, such as lack of water and electricity outages.

She called on the government and other stakeholders to emulate Evomec’s example and contribute to addressing the school’s infrastructure needs.

“Yes, they are here for good. They are here to donate learning desks for the students. We have been on this for years and we thank God that today it’s coming to pass.

“The Evomec team, we are advising them or calling out to them, by way of appeal because we have government that is supposed to be doing this, so, for them to come in is a great plus for us. We are using this opportunity to call on them in any way they can come and help out.

“We have water issues, we have light issues, our walkways are flooded, the students are always walking in waters when it rains, for the teachers the same thing, we are using this opportunity to call on them in any way they can reach out to us we will thank God for that”.

The donation from Evomec Global Services Limited represents a significant step towards creating a conducive learning environment at Bonny National Grammar School, demonstrating the positive impact of corporate social responsibility initiatives on educational institutions and communities.
