Decisive Action Awaits Attacks on National Assets, Infrastructure – NSCDC

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has read the riot act to oil thieves and other acts of sabotage against the nation’s economy, saying any attempt to tamper with national assets and infrastructure will be met with stiff resistance.

This was contained in a statement signed by the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the NSCDC, Rivers State Command, Assistant Commandant Mike Oguntuase and made available to the Media on Wednesday, December 16, 2021, in Port Harcourt.

“I wish to inform the general public that the Corps is poised to meet any group of persons or individuals intending to tamper with the critical National Assets and Infrastructure within the state with stiff resistance.”

The Corps disclosed that its Rivers State Command in collaboration with the Nigerian Navy has arrested 40 suspected oil thieves, 10 Trucks, 9 Boats, 69 Jerry cans, Drums, 100 Petroleum Pipes, 83 sacks, Seven (7) Pumping Machines, Seven (7) 40HP Yamaha Engines, One (1) 90HP Yamaha Engine, Several Hoses and Sacks all filled With Suspected Adulterated Petroleum Products.

It reiterated its determination to checkmate the excesses of oil thieves and illegal bunkering and to ensure that critical national assets in the state were safe from economic saboteurs.

Enumerating some of its recent operational successes, the statement informed that the Command, on Sunday, November 14, 2021 at about 0200hrs, arrested three large wooden boats also known as ‘Cotonou’ boat loaded with suspected adulterated automotive gas oil (AGO) at Rumuoparaeli in Obio/Akpo LGA, and also recovered two pumping machines and a long hose used for acts of vandalism.

It further informed that on the same day at about 0530hrs, the Command apprehended a wooden boat loaded with suspected adulterated AGO, and also recovered a pumping machine, two long hoses used for acts of vandalism, adding that no suspect was arrested as the suspects fled on sighting the Anti-Vandalism Team.

Also, on Monday, November 29, 2021, “the Nigerian Navy handed over 20 suspected illegal oil bunkerers with 434 empty drums loaded in three (3) large wooden boats. Items recovered from the suspects include: Seven (7) Pumping Machines, Seven (7) 40HP Yamaha Engines, One (1) 90HP Yamaha Engine and Several Hoses”.

“On 1st December, 2021 at about 1400hrs a suspect was arrested close to Julius Berger gate along Eastern By-Pass Road with a Short White Man Diesel Truck with registration Number LAGOS KTU 50 XF loaded with suspected illegally refined  AGO (Diesel).”

“On the same day, at about 2158hrs an IVECO TRUCK with Registration Number BORNO GZA 183 XA and a DAF TANKER with Registration Number Kaduna DKA 788 ZP loaded with suspected illegally refined AGO with four (4) suspects were arrested at Eastern By-Pass Road, Port Harcourt.”

“On 2nd December, 2021 at about 1100hrs a team of our Anti Vandal men impounded a DAF TRUCK with Registration Number KEBBI MYM 131 XA loaded with suspected illegally refined AGO abandoned by fleeing suspects.”

“On 10th December 2021 twelve (12) Suspects with two (2) wooden boats laden with 63 Jerry cans of AGO, 6 jerry cans filled with DPK (Kerosene), 83 sacks of AGO were handed over to the Command by the Nigerian Navy for further investigation and possible prosecution.”

“On 11th December 2021, at about 1500hrs, a suspect was arrested at Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni LGA with suspected vandalized 92 oil pipes about 4 inches 20feet lent and 8 number of 4 inch pipes of about 10feet in lent loaded in a MARK Truck REG. NUMBER Lagos LND 470 XX.”

“On 12th December, 2021, at about 1706hrs the Anti-Vandalism Team of the Command Recovered a Red-white DAF Truck with Registration Number KADUNA NGN 21 XA loaded with suspected Illegally refined AGO along Ahoada axis, East/West Road in Ahoada-East LGA of the state.”

“On the 13th December 2021 at about 0510hrs at Elele round about, along Elele/Owerri Road in Ikwerre LGA, 2 suspected oil thieves were apprehended while conveying suspected illegally refined AGO in a white Mack truck with REG. Number Lagos GGE 787 XJ.”

The NSCDC announced that all the arrested suspects were currently undergoing thorough investigation and will soon be charged to court for possible prosecution.

The statement concluded with a call by the Commandant General of the NSCDC, Ahmed Abubakar Audi, PhD, on every good-spirited individual in the state to please collaborate with the Command by promptly reporting any strange movement around them and the critical assets and infrastructures within the state to the nearest security post for prompt action.
