Burna Boy Joins Shakira On 2026 FIFA World Cup Anthem “Dai Dai”
Grammy-winning Nigerian superstar Burna Boy has joined Colombian global music icon Shakira on “Dai Dai,” the official anthem for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, in one of the most talked-about entertainment collaborations ahead of the tournament.
The song, released on Friday, May 15, 2026, has continued to generate global attention, with major reactions across entertainment and sports platforms between May 18 and May 19 as fans shared opinions on the high-profile collaboration.
According to FIFA, the anthem was created to reflect global unity through football and music, as part of build-up activities toward the 2026 World Cup scheduled to be hosted by the United States, Canada and Mexico.
FIFA, in its official statement, said:
“Dai Dai brings together the global sounds and energy of Shakira and Burna Boy in a vibrant celebration of football, culture and unity.”
The football governing body also confirmed that proceeds from the project will support its education initiative.
FIFA stated:
“Royalties from the song will support the FIFA Global Citizen Education Fund.”
The announcement immediately sparked worldwide attention due to the rare collaboration between two major global acts from different continents and musical backgrounds.
Shakira, who has long been associated with FIFA World Cup music following her global success with “Waka Waka (This Time for Africa)” in 2010, returned to the football stage with Burna Boy bringing an Afrobeats influence to the anthem.
The release has since trended across major social media platforms, including TikTok, X, Instagram and YouTube, with fans praising the blend of Latin pop and African rhythms.
Reports also confirm that Burna Boy and Shakira are expected to perform the anthem at selected FIFA-related events ahead of the tournament.
In a separate development, FIFA has also confirmed plans for a historic entertainment feature at the final of the 2026 World Cup.
FIFA President Gianni Infantino said:
“This will be a historic moment for the FIFA World Cup and a show worthy of the world’s greatest sporting events.”
The final is scheduled to take place on July 19, 2026, at the New York New Jersey Stadium in the United States.
FIFA also confirmed that the halftime show will be curated by Chris Martin in partnership with Global Citizen.
Global music stars Madonna, Shakira and BTS are expected to headline the first-ever FIFA World Cup final halftime show.
The initiative marks a major shift in FIFA’s entertainment approach, blending football with large-scale global music performances on the world’s biggest sporting stage.
For Nigerian fans, Burna Boy’s involvement is being widely celebrated as another major moment for Afrobeats on the global stage, further strengthening the genre’s influence in international entertainment culture.
