The people of Bonny Local Government Area are in mourning as unconfirmed reports indicate that the Chairman of the LGA, David Irimagha has died just days after celebrating the birthday of his boss, the Commissioner for Local Government, Rodaford Longjohn.

Kristina Reports checks reveal that Irimagha passed on in the early hours of Saturday, September 18, 2021 at an undisclosed hospital in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital.

‘SILENT ACHIEVER?’ : Chairman, Bonny LGA, David Irimagha

Though anonymous sources confirmed the development to Kristina Reports, there was yet no official confirmation from his family, the Bonny Local Government Council or his party, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).

Irimagha’s demise would be the first time a sitting Chairman of Bonny LGA would die while in office.

“He has been sick for a while now. He was complaining of not feeling well and we hear that his lungs were rupturing and he went into coma and later gave up the ghost around midnight,” an anonymous source told Kristina Reports.

Another source attributed it to COVID-19 complications, saying that he was diagnosed and being treated of the infection but went into coma and later passed on in the early hours of Saturday, September 18, 2021.

Kristina Reports, however, could not confirm these claims as at the time of this report.

A source within the Local Government Council, who preferred anonymity, has, however, refuted the claims of rupture of the lungs, urging for patience as the medical report is still being awaited, adding that the LG Council will make a statement when the family confirms the death and possible cause of death.

Efforts by Kristina Reports to reach his wife proved abortive as she was said to be incommunicado, obviously, grieving the loss of her husband.

David Irimagha, who was a one-time Leader of the Bonny Legislative Assembly, was elected for a second term in office on Saturday, April 17, 2021 and subsequently sworn into office by Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike on Thursday, June 17, 2021, at Government House, Port Harcourt.
