Tonye Isenah represents Kolokuma/Opukuma Constituency One in the Bayelsa State House of Assembly.

Raising the impeachment motion under matters of urgent public importance, the lawmaker representing Sagbama Constituency Two, Hon. Bernard Kenebai accused the former Speaker of mismanagement and dereliction of duties.

The Deputy Speaker, Hon. Abraham Ngobere, who presided over the plenary session, later put the motion to a voice vote where all the eighteen members in the hallowed chamber echoed with a ‘YEA’ response.

The Deputy Speaker thereafter pronounced Tonye Isenah impeached as the Speaker of the 6th Assembly.

The House having impeached the former Speaker, elected Hon. Monday Edwin Obolo Bubuo, representing Southern Ijaw Constituency Two, as the new Speaker of the Bayelsa State House of Assembly.

Hon. Bubuo’s election followed his nomination by Hon. Oforji Oboku, representing Yenagoa Constituency One, which was seconded by Hon. Naomi Ogoli of Ogbia Constituency Three.

Earlier, there was a pandemonium at the Assembly Complex as hoodlums invaded the premises and carted away the Assembly Mace regarded as the symbol of authority of the House.

This resulted in a shootout between the security personnel at the complex and the thugs alleged to be acting on orders of the former Speaker.

Meanwhile, the embattled Speaker of the House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Tonye Emmanuel Isenah has said he still remains the authentic Speaker.

Isenah added that he has equally adjourned the House for recession and that anything done in the house thereafter is illegal and would not hold grounds constitutionally.

He also debunked the rumour that he is breaching a prearranged agreement between him and some executives of the ruling party in the State, PDP, warranting him to resign.

He said that there is no agreement to that effect and should not be regarded by the public.
