The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), says it has shifted ground on Federal Government’s offer.
It said this on Friday via its Twitter account. Although, the union did not tell if it would call of the eight-month strike, it said that details calling off the strike would be communicated.
“The Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, has shifted ground on FG’s offer.”
The Union insisted that payment of outstanding salaries must not be done as through IPPIS platform as promised, if strike would be suspended. Wait for more details #ASUUANDFG,” it stated.
Punch reports on its Instagram account on Friday that the union leadership reached a consensus on Friday, in Abuja during a meeting with Federal Government led team by Dr Chris Ngige, Minister of Labour and Employment following a new offer of N70 billion made to the union from the initial N65 billion.
Speaking to journalists after the meeting, Ngige said the parley was fruitful, adding that the government made a proposal to ASUU which it would take back to its members.
He said, “Many issues were discussed at the meeting including salary shortfall, the payment system and revitalisation of the university system. I am positive that all the issues would be resolved at our next meeting.”
Meanwhile, Professor Biodun Ogunyemi, ASUU President, said everything Ngige said was correct and declined further comment.
Recall last week, the government accepted the demand by the union that they be exempted from the Integrated Payroll and PERSONNEL Information System (IPPIS).
