Anthony Joshua served Robert Helenius a seventh-round knockout punch to the Jaw in Saturday’s bout at the O2 Arena in London.
Joshua now has 26 wins, 23 of which are by knockouts and three defeats in 29 fights. Joshua’s last knockout win was on 12 December 2020, against Kubrat Pulev where he saw off the Bulgarian in the ninth round at the SSE Arena, London, England.
“People need to leave me alone, let me breathe a bit. Helenius, I told him, please come again, he’s got talent. He will cause a lot of people problems, credit to him, saving the show. I’ll see you again soon, hopefully, two more times this year, I need to stay busy.
Robert Helenius (The Nordic Nightmare) came into the ring with 32 wins and four defeats from 36 professional bouts and suffered an additional loss increasing the tally to five.
The 39-year-old who stepped in on short notice for Dillian Whyte after a failed drug test, was knocked out in the first round by Deontay Wilder in October but survived six more rounds against Anthony Joshua.
“If I could have done it earlier, I would have, It’s a breaking down job. There’s many ways to skin a cat and I did it in the end.”
Anthony Joshua is expected to have it out with Deontay Wilder in a mouth-watering clash in Saudi Arabia in January. Joshua’s seventh-round KO saw comparisons roll in, given that Wilder finished off Helenius in under three minutes of the first round.
Joshua reacted to the comparisons saying Deontay and himself are separate fighters
“Wilder’s got a good right hand, I’ve got a good right hand but [we’re] both completely separate fighters,”
“[For me there was] a switch of opponent. Switch of gameplan, I just followed it as best I could and got the victory in the seventh round.”
Speaking on a bout with Deontay Wilder, Anthony Joshua joked
“My back’s gone, I’m carrying this heavyweight division to the top.”
“This is a game of chess, I’m gonna take away Wilder’s best attributes. I’m not gonna stand there with my chin in the air and say, ‘Hit me.’ I’m gonna nullify him. It will be very challenging for him for sure.”
