When news broke on Saturday, July 31, 2021 that scavengers had killed a young man from Abalamabie Community in Bonny Local Government Area of Rivers State, Kristina Reports’ Security Correspondent, Susan Pepple went around town to ascertain the veracity of what had transpired.

In the course of her investigation, she met and spoke with the Leader of the Bonny Youths Federation (BYF), Emmanuel Finecountry, who volunteered details of what had happened. The excerpts are here for free:

Can you brief us on the detail of the Coconut Estate incident?

I was called this morning by my Director of Security that a Bonny young chap was killed by Hausa people. I had to reach the environment to know what really transpired. On my getting there, I saw Bonny youths there who were so angry that a Bonny young man was killed by the Hausa people and security agencies were also there to arrest the situation. That was what happened.

Can you confirm whether there was loss of life since you were at the scene this morning?

We cannot really ascertain if the young man is dead but what I can say is that some youth set sail to try to see if they can get the corpse of the young man that drowned. So, we are still expecting feedback from the youths that set sail.

Aside from that, what about the suspects, have they been arrested?

Yes, they said this whole thing happened in a Cotonou (cargo) boat and the Cotonou boat was on its way to Port Harcourt. The Cotonou boat was returned back. I am just leaving the police station now (then). There is a suspect we have at hand now. So, investigations will be carried out and we will know the full story of what transpired.

Please Kristina Reports. Note for records purposes. Oguede community youth does not collect money from scavengers, and they never paid money to any youth from the community. Oguede community youth do not go to collect money in the night with machete from scavengers. This scavengers has been in the community doing there business for years, and they can not say, any youth from Oguede community had at anytime harass them in any form, or collect money of any kind, in the name of community. It has never happened before not now from scavengers. Reporters pls keep the community out of this.
