Nigerians Abroad: Iheanacho Strikes Again for Midtjylland as Sekidika Opens K League Account in Thrilling Style

Sunday turned out to be an eventful night for Nigerian talent in Europe and Asia, with Stanley Iheanacho continuing his sensational form as FC Midtjylland’s ultimate impact substitute, while Jesse Sekidika notched his maiden goal to inspire Gangwon FC to a dramatic victory.

Iheanacho once again proved why he is one of the most dangerous options off the bench in the Danish Superliga.

Stanley Iheanacho scores in second consecutive game for FC Midtjylland

Introduced right after halftime in place of Valdemar Byskov, the academy graduate took just four minutes to blow Midtjylland’s clash against Lyngby Boldklub wide open.

Latching onto a sharp pass down the left flank from Beni Djé, the young Nigerian forward sprinted into the box and rifled a unstoppable strike high past Lyngby keeper Diego Kochen.

The goal marked Iheanacho’s second consecutive match finding the back of the net—both coming as a second-half substitute—following his mid-week strike against Bohemian FC in the UEFA Conference League.

Despite his heroics, Midtjylland were unable to hold onto the lead. Lyngby responded nine minutes later through Gustav Fraulo, forcing the visitors to settle for a 1-1 draw in their Round 4 fixture.

Over in South Korea, Jesse Sekidika enjoyed a night to remember in K League 1. Making his first start for Gangwon since joining from Azerbaijan’s Sabah FK, the 30-year-old winger registered his first official goal for the club in spectacular fashion.

With Gangwon trailing 1-0 away to Ulsan HD FC following an early header from Kim Young-gwon, Sekidika took matters into his own hands in the 35th minute.

Blazing past the Ulsan backline with blistering speed, the Nigerian coolly slotted a right-footed shot into the bottom corner to restore parity.

Sekidika’s equaliser ignited a chaotic back-and-forth encounter. Gangwon forced an own goal shortly before the break to take the lead, only for Ulsan to equalise in the 56th minute.

Gangwon secured the thrilling 3-2 victory late in the game when Kim Dong-hyun struck the winner in the 83rd minute.

While Iheanacho had to settle for a point despite his clinical form, Sekidika’s breakthrough moment helped propel his side to one of their most impressive victories of the season.
