Fabeke Anticipates Positive Prospect, Intensifies Campaign Ahead of Rivers South-East Polls
The Rivers South-East Senatorial District By-election is scheduled to hold on Saturday, June 20, 2026 to find a replacement for the vacancy left by the sudden death of the Senator occupying the senatorial seat at the National Assembly, Barry Mpigi, a couple of months ago.
This bid threw wide open the door for political parties and their aspirants with interest in the position to commence campaigns, which must be concluded on Thursday, June 18.

In the forefront of the contest is the leader of the Ogoni Liberation Initiative (OLI), Douglas Fabeke, who is flying the flag of the Action Alliance (AA), and competing against the Wike-backed Rainbow Coalition candidate, Olaka Nwogu, of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
Since the campaign window began on Monday, Fabeke has been touring the local government areas that make up the Senatorial District to sensitise the people and canvass for their votes.
Fabeke kicked off his tour of the seven local government areas of the Rivers South-East Senatorial District from Khana, his home local government area. He had on Day 1 of the campaign visited the palace of the Traditional Custodian of the Ancient Bua-Bangha kingdom, HRM Suanu T. Y. Baridam, where he received a warm welcome from the Council of Chiefs, youths, and women.

After embarking on the tour of Gokana and Eleme local government areas with the campaign train on Day 2 and Day 3 respectively, Fabeke advanced to Oyigbo local government area, where he engaged with the people through market visits and meetings with various councils of chiefs to outline his vision for the people of Rivers South-East.
Returning from Oyigbo LGA on the same day, the campaign made a stop at Tai LGA with a rigorous Ward to Ward contact with electorates. To complete the day’s schedule, Fabeke terminated the task of the day at the esteemed Okwale, Ward 5, to address a group of waiting supporters.
Today, June 18, 2026, the Senatorial Candidate is concluding his campaign with a tour of Andoni and Opobo/Nkoro Local Government Areas, with the first stop at the seat of the Okaan-Ama of Ngo, His Majesty King Dr. Mathew Jonah Ogwuokwa Ibotile Nnabiget XV. This was remarkable as Fabeke received the prayers of a man known to be the oldest in Ngo, Andoni.

He then proceeded to engage with stakeholders and supporters, and the Ministerial Council led by Bishop Egbe, walking through various communities/Wards in area to finalise the campaign exercise.
The Action Alliance Candidate said he has been so far impressed by the enthusiastic turnup of the people of his senatorial district during the course of this campaign, and has extended his gratitude to them for their belief in change.

“I am delighted to express my deepest gratitude to all my supporters and prayer partners for their unwavering encouragement.”
“I extend my appreciation to those who have stood by me, both physically and spiritually, as well as those who offered words of encouragement on social media and those whose constructive criticisms have challenged me to grow stronger,” Fabeke said.
